Hi I'm Abby

I am a BYU-Idaho student majoring in political science. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The majority of my life growing up was spent in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I am now a college student at BYU-Idaho studying political science with an emphasis in foreign affairs. In high school I competed in speech and debate that has made me very passionate about politics. I am currently working to earn money for school.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have taken the time to gain a testimony of my own. Not because my parents say its true. I choose to be a member of this church because it makes sense. To me all the pieces fit perfectly.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by making conscious decisions each day about how I invest my time in life. I believe that everything in this whole world, including our time is given to us by God. One of the few things we can do to even try to repay him is by investing our time wisely. I have made a choice not to waste any of the time he has given me and that sets me apart from others. My coworkers, employers, and friends. This standard has given me many opportunities to talk about my beliefs with others. I also live my faith by choosing the highest standards possible. Each day I try to find one way which I can be continually striving to improve my life and expand the kingdom of God.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

We are asked to donate a "tithe" to the church for not only the sake of the church but for our own as well. I believe many blessings come from paying an honest tithe. God blesses those who pay an honest tithe and I have come to feel the blessings of paying my tithing consistently. Because I paid my tithing, I was allowed to attend BYU-Idaho. I feel hugely blessed knowing that much of my education is paid for by other members of the church willing to make that sacrifice for the Lord. It encourages me to perform better in school and to be grateful for the opportunities I have. In short. Tithing causes us to look at the source of our blessings. It encourages gratitude and humility. It provides the monetary means for missionary work, education, and disaster relief. We give 10% and the Lord blesses us a million times over. Show more Show less
