Woody: Mormon.

Hi I'm Woody

About Me

My name is Woody, born and raised in South Carolina. I am one of three children raised in a mill village in humble circumstances. I was raised by loving parents in a part member family. What I may have lacked in material possessions I made up for in the love I felt by my family. Now I am a father of three married children and ten beautiful grandchildren.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was a member and I was born into the church. At the age of 9 I chose to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I chose to follow Jesus Christ's example and to live for him and obey the commandments that one day I could return through him to live with Heavenly Father. At the age of 66 I have a testimony to share with the world that I know Heavenly Father lives and is over all and I know that he loves me and I love him. I am so thankful for his plan of salvation that he sent his only begotten son Jesus Christ to atone for my sins and for his redeeming powers and I know that he is my personal Savior. I love my brother Jesus Christ. I testify that the Holy Ghost is a third member of the Godhead and he testifies of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I have felt his love in teaching me, comforting me and guiding me in righteousness throughout life. I love the Holy Ghost for his wonderful guidance and promptings of the truth. I love Joseph Smith our first prophet for his obedience in following Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and for his willingness to translate the book of Mormon. I know that the Holy Bible and the book of Mormon are two testaments of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

Personal Stories

Please explain the part prayer plays in your life?

By understanding the gospel of Jesus Christ and The Plan of Salvation and having faith it is wonderful to communicate with your Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost through prayer. Prayer helps me to be thankful for our many blessings and for the opportunity to serve and be obedient. It helps me to be to be obedient in assignments and callings given to me by those in authority such as our living prophet Thomas S. Monson our Stake President our Bishop and others in leadership positions. Through prayer my testimony grows to know that Heavenly Father his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost is there to answer my prayers according to their will.

How has attending Church services helped you?

It teaches you that you are not alone. By attending church services you feel the spirit of the Holy Ghost that guides your thoughts to Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. You gain knowledge through the truth that is taught through the scriptures including the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, The pearl of Great Price and other church handbooks and magazines.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

It has given me a guide and a testimony of how people have lived their lives in good and bad times. I have learned that if we are faithful and true and live the commandments we will never be forsaken. I also have learned that if we are foolish and not sincere in following Heavenly Fathers plan we can be cut off from his presence. My testimony is to have a broken heart and a contrite spirit at all times so that the Holy Ghost can bless us with inspiration and revelation that is necessary for us to receive to understand the mysteries of God.

What are you doing to help strengthen your family and make it successful?

Family prayer morning and night each day. Personal prayer each day and night. Reading the scriptures preferably on a daily basis. Fasting for family and fellow man. Attending church at least three hours on Sunday and other scheduled meetings. Visiting fellow church members monthly to help strenghen and share scriptual and spiritual messages. Also to help them with any needs they may have. Having Famly Home evening each Monday night to teach each other the gospel and to participate in our church callings what ever they might be. By doing this, this strenghtens our testimony which allows us to live the commandments.

How I live my faith

Each day my bride of 47 years and I have companionship prayer together morning and evening. I have personal prayer multiple times a day and depend on the Holy Ghost to guide me in all my decisions. I read the scriptures often and fast for others, but most of all I serve my fellow man to the best of my ability. I know I am blessed by the Lord daily in all that I do. I am blessed to be lead by the Holy Ghost on a daily basis. I know Heavenly Father lives and is over all. His son Jesus Christ is our Savior, Redeemer and atoned for our sins. I know that Joseph Smith was our first latter day prophet; he gave his life to further the Lord's work on earth. I am thankful for our living prophet Thomas S. Monson and for the revelation he receives from the Lord each day. I am thankful that he teaches us the things that have been revealed to him.
