Hi I'm Amanda Black

I grew up dancing. Found a love for all the different arts. I married my best friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love the arts. I grew up surrounding myself in them. Dance, photography, drawing, acting, singing; playing violin, piano, guitar. My parents let me try it all. Good thing, because I couldn't decide on just one. I found my love for the stage later on. I graduated college majoring in theater. I got the chance to direct a play and choreograph dancing for a couple of others. Ever since I was 16 I knew that I would serve a mission for the church. Not that I had the desire right way, I was scared to, but God had already told me that I would. I served my mission in London, England. One of the greatest decisions I ever made. It completely changed who I was, how I lived what I believe, and the way I saw the purpose of this life. England became like a second home for me, filled with a people I love. Some might say that I waited a long time to get married, especially being a Mormon. I didn't necessarily choose to wait, I wanted to marry, but all things will be done according to God's timing. He definitely knows what is best for me. Finally last year I found and married my best friend, Jake. There is no doubt that the Lord led us to each other. Jake is my best friend, my other half. He teaches me, uplifts me, and supports me. And even more exciting news, we are expecting our first child in July. Just the other day we felt the baby for the first time. We are so blessed to get to share this life and forever as an eternal family.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I have grown up a member of the church, my conversion to the Gospel has been a life-long process. There are moments in my life that I can look back on and see where I learned that God lives. I know that he loves me, that he cares about me, who I am, who I become. There are moments in my life where I struggled and in turn felt Him lift me. Moments in my life where I lost my way, made mistakes, and wasn't sure I could feel at peace. It was those times that taught me that I had a Savior. That he sacrificed not just for everyone, but for the individual. He paid specifically for me so I could move on and be forgiven. His Atonement is real and can be applied to bless and enrich our lives every day. Moments I felt lost, and only found my way by living the teachings of this Gospel. I know that living the teachings and commandments of the Gospel of Jesus Christ free us. Free us and help us to increase in wisdom and knowledge. There is no doubt in my mind that God speaks to us today through a living Prophet, and that through the Prophet Joseph Smith He restored His church again to the earth. There are moments in my life, especially on my mission, where the spirit testified this to me and those moments still burn within me. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. If you want to draw nearer to God, read this book of scripture. If you want to find answers to your questions, read and ask God in prayer, He will answer. He will because He loves you. Families can be together forever. I know this to be true, and this makes my heart swell within me. To know that I get to be with the ones I love so dearly even after this life. I have found that so much has been added to my life because I choose to be a member of Christ's church. This is why I want to share it with everyone, so they can find the same blessing that I have. That is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my Faith through daily re-dedication. I'm not perfect, something I definitely had to learn. Each day I try to live the commandments. I say my prayers; I try to make them personal and reflective. I read the scriptures, I try to study and learn new things by listening to the spirit. I try to follow the example of Christ, in service, in kindness, in forgiveness, in love to all. I try each day to live by Faith and Trust. But I'm not perfect. That's why I go to Church every week. To partake of the Sacrament and renew promises. To learn more about the Gospel and how I can do better. Faith is something that can be seen in how we speak and how we act. Each day I strive to be someone better than the person I was the day before. Living my Faith is also sharing it. I believe that God loves all his children. Because I believe this it's my responsibility to share what I have found with others. So they can find out for themselves.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Amanda Black
God love all of His children. He wants them to all get the chance to choose whether or not to follow His plan. The first step in following him is being baptized, in the right way and by the proper authority. Many have passed on from this life without the opportunity. This why we do Baptisms for the dead, so that those no longer living still have the change to choose for themselves. Show more Show less
