Hi I'm Darlene

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a published author, script writer, director, and producer. I have worked under my professional name in print, television, radio, and stage. I was my mother's caregiver for my mother for many years. I am physically challenged, but never disabled. I have worked with at-risk youth in arts/theater programs, which I love. My passion is the theater, but I am currently involved in television production.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always known the church is true, even as a child. This was long before I ever became a member. My sister actually joined the church when I was about 6 or 7. She was 11 years older and I distinctly recall when she brought a calendar home one day and hung it on the wall of her room. When I saw the picture of Joseph Smith on it I asked who the man in the picture was. She said he was a prophet of God. I can still see that picture. I knew when she told me it was true. I knew then I would join the same church. But that was not to be for many years. When my sister was baptized, my dad (her step-father) threw her out of the house. He forbade me to have contact with her. I knew, even at that age, that my dad was wrong. He taught me about the scriptures, faith, and God. Everything he taught me was Mormonism. I have always said if he had just shut up and listened he would have joined the church himself. Shortly after my high school graduation I was baptized. I walked up to one of the missionaries at a Bicentennial celebration where they had a booth and asked how I could join their church. The elder almost choked on his ice. I didn't know people didn't usually do that. I was baptized about three and a half weeks later. I am a Mormon because I have a devout testimony in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, in the Prophet Joseph Smith, and in the Restoration of the Gospel in this dispensation. Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten of our Father in Heaven lives! Joseph Smith was truly a prophet of God and his story is true! I have had that testimony since I was a child and I cherish it. I thank Heavenly Father for giving me that testimony at a young age. It saved my life. That's why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith is a integral part of my life. It guides my decisions. It is the basis on which I run my business. My faith is my life. I cannot separate the two. It has not always been easy; it is not the popular way to live, but it is the right way to live. I have a strong testimony that our faith must be greater than our circumstances. I know that because I have overcome so many challenges, near-death experiences, and I have risen above many circumstances that would have destroyed me had I not had the testimony that I carry. I know that it is only through the Grace of Jesus Christ, my Redeemer, that I am able to write this now. The knowledge that I have of the fullness of the Gospel is what allows me to get up in the morning and to push through each day despite the challenges I face. I thank Heavenly Father for the challenges I have faced because they have taught me great truths and allowed me to understand the suffering of others. I have learned that no matter how bad things get, the Lord is still there waiting to help you, to carry you if needs be. He will never forsake you. He is Light shining in the Darkness. My faith is in me and I am my faith. You cannot separate us. I am a Mormon and I am ready to lay my life down to seal my testimony. That is the only way I know to live my faith. Totally. Completely. Without shame or apology for who I am. I love being a Mormon.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Darlene
Having worked with at-risk youth, I also believe that we must instill in our youth at a very early age that each of us are a precious Child of our Heavenly Father. They must be taught that their bodies are temples that house the spirit that Father has sent here. They must be taught to keep their bodies and minds pure. We are allowing precious young children to be exposed to television, music, movies, and other media that is inappropriate and teaches them principles that are contrary to the teachings of our Father. Those teachings start in the home with the parents. Children whose parents are involved in their lives, set good examples, teach them the Gospel, and give them positive reinforcement for good behavior perform better in school, have healthier relationships, and typically follow a more righteous path. I have seen too many whose parents are not there or do not provide their children with proper guidance and teaching. These children end up in trouble with the law, unwed parents at a young age, and sometimes in worse situations. My opinion is that righteous parents are the key to saving a generation from the insidious effects of pornography, gangs, drugs, and other evil trappings. Show more Show less
