Hi I'm Spencer John Waters

I'm a Junior at Oakton High School. I sing in choir. I've played piano for 9 years and guitar for 2. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Music is my passion. I love everything from Classical to Jazz to Rock. I've taken piano lessons since I was a kid and have recently branched off into guitar. I also love singing. I've sung in choir since middle school and have taken voice lessons for about 2 years. I've sung in men choirs, mixed choirs, Madrigal chorus, jazz choirs, and a cappella groups. You name it, and I've probably played it. I also enjoy musicals. I've participated in such school musicals as "Oliver", "Annie", "Oklahoma!", and "Footloose" and have held such roles as The Artful Dodger, Bert Healey, Will Parker, and Willard Hewitt. When I'm not practicing for a music class, I'm developing my own piano and voice arrangements.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born into the church, there came a point in my life when I could no longer rely upon my parents' testimony to keep my faith alive. In my 7th grade year of school I was diagnosed with depression. Through my struggles in life I have learned that there is a God. A living and loving God who knows who I am and will never leave me. The church has helped me come closer to that God and has showed me how I can lead happy and fulfilling life. I owe my life to the gospel.

How I live my faith

I go to church every sunday for three, sometimes four hours and wake up every morning at 5:00 AM to go to an early morning religion class known as Seminary. While most teenagers would rather spend time sleeping, I find enjoyment out of studying the word of God and living its principles. As a teenager, a lot of my friends tend to spend their weekends at parties where they will run into illegal activities. Instead of shunning them and condemning their activities, I love them and let them know what I believe in and how it helps me in my daily life.
