Hi I'm Steph

I'm a civil engineer by day and a glass blower and stained glass artist by night. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have an insatiable curiosity and love to learn about everything from how to use a unique artistic medium to how kidneys work to how the pyramids were built. I'm a civil engineer by trade and do mostly floodplain modeling and hydrology, which helps people prepare for and protect themselves from natural disasters or catastrophic infrastructure failures that could result in flooding. I'm also a glass artist and love creating pieces of art that bring people happiness and lighten the soul. I dance whenever I get the chance, mostly swing, ballroom, and salsa. I love everything that get me outdoors, especially hiking, running and traveling, and I love how being outdoors and seeing the beauty of this earth teaches me about how much God loves me. I love my family to pieces. My parents and my siblings have become my best friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I cannot imaging living my life with my faith. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-Day Saints is what gives meaning and purpose to everything I do. The church is the true church of the living God and He is at its head. Whenever I have any question about anything, I know where to go to find the answers. I know that I can always go to the church and its resources (the scriptures - the Bible and the Book of Mormon, the living and past prophets words, my church leaders) to learn true and correct principles, then I can take them to God and prayer so He can help me know for sure that they are true and help me apply them to my life. Sometimes it takes time and effort to find the answers I'm looking for, but I always know that I am looking in the right place and that the answers will come. I ache for those who search everywhere they can think of for the answers to life's most crucial questions and I am full of gratitude to have found the source of all the answers I am willing and wanting to receive. The gospel is true and good and so, so merciful. God is so merciful to have given it to us. Because of this, I know that I am His child and that He loves me and is and wants to be an active participant in my life. And that gives everything purpose and meaning.

How I live my faith

Knowing God loves me makes it easy and natural for me to share that love with those around me. Knowing that I am a beloved daughter of God helps me to see the divinity in others and hopefully that helps them to see it, too. I love working with the youth every chance I get. I feel like God has blessed me with a special love for teenagers so I can help them to see how much He loves them. But most of all, the gospel and the empowering grace of the Atonement of Jesus Christ just makes me better, little by little every day. My faith makes me a better friend, sister, daughter, neighbor, citizen, American, teacher, engineer, artist, musician, person. My faith motivates me in everything I do and I feel God's power in my life. Living with active faith everyday, actively loving others, repenting and changing often, and trusting Him to guide me and give me grace, helps me have the eyes to see how the Master of the Universe takes notice of me personally. Though I often see myself as just one among billions, He shows me how He sees me as one in a billion, precious and beloved to Him. It doesn't get better than that!

What is the Law of Chastity?

The Law of Chastity means remaining sexually pure (abstinent) outside of marriage and being perfect faithful to your spouse within marriage. This includes not just actions but being very careful about keeping your thoughts pure. I'm 31, single, and a virgin. Most people find that situation hard to fathom or understand, but it is one of the greatest blessings of my life. My self respect is perfectly in tact, it teaches me how to view myself and others as sacred and special children of God, it teaches me how to love selflessly and sincerely, and I know that reserving something so sacred for my marriage one day will bless that marriage and keep it strong and solid, enduring and smiled upon by God.
