Hi I'm Orville F. Bless

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, the last of six children. I like fishing, photography, and Geneology.

About Me

I like nature, seeing the birds and animals, and taking pictures of them. I like to fish, and release them. I do indexing records and geneology. I'm sort of a handy-man, repairing and buiding things. I like to sing in church, and karaoke, and sing with my wife when we are on the road. I am a father, a grandfather, and with my presant wife, a great grandfather-in-law. Being retired, we like to travel and see different places.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Baptist church, later when I got older it seemed they didn't have too much for the youth. A neighbor introduced me to the Pentacostal faith, & I started going there. Later I met my previous wife, and we invited her brother to the church. He and his feiance said they were going to California and get married. They moved, married and later someone introduced them to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were active for some time and then inactive. Later somone helped them come back and they were wondering who needed to be in the church. They both thought of my wife and I. My sister-in-law told us about the "Mormon" church, Joseph Smith, and that God and Christ have glorified bodies and that the Holy Ghost is a Spirit. The missionaries came and explained more about the church, and I gained a testimony of the church. They invited me to join the church but I wasn't ready. Later, they asked me again, and said that one of the baptism dates was April 6th, the day, revealed by revelation, that Christ was born. I thought that would be a good time to be baptised, on Christ's birthday. I said a prayer in my heart and asked the Lord if He wanted me to be baptised on His birthday. I had a strong feeling that the answer was YES. I said that I had said a prayer and that the answer was YES. One of the missionaries said that he felt the spirit too. I was wondering at that time how he could feel what I was feeling, but later found that the missionaries were given that gift. I was baptized and confirmed a member of the true church on Saturday, April 6th. The next day was Fast Sunday where members of the church bear their testimonies of the gospel and Christ and God. The Bishop's counselor had me stand and be recognized as having been baptized the day before. I felt that was when I should bear my testimony. I said I was thankful that I had lived long enough to find the church. The lord helped me to learn more of the gospel.

How I live my faith

I have had different callings in the church. Assistant Scout Master, Primary- childrens teacher, Executive Secretery, counseller with two Bishops, assistant in in the older men's group, and now Secretery in that group. I have sung in choirs in the different congregations I have been in. We have worked in two different Family History Centers helping others to learn how to find their ancestors, and learning more how to find our own. We go to cemetaries to find the graves of our departed families after looking up their information at the History Center and on the internet. I do indexing, which is recording the information on digital images of census and other records on the church website on to a form so that others can find their ancestors easier.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

In the Bible Christ says that he can only do what the Father has done. Christ has a resurrected body of flesh and bones, so therefore God has a resurrected body of flesh and bones also. Show more Show less
