Hi I'm Chad
I am a college student who is taking a break from school to serve a 2 year mission. I am also a racquetball player and love playing people with my left hand and then if they start beating me, I switch to my right hand and use the line from Princess Diaries of "I'm not left handed". I also love Basketball. I enjoy pushing myself to be better especially in keeping my body physically fit. I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with my family. Family trips have enabled me to grow closer to each of my siblings and to my Mother and Father. Life is fun and I enjoy activities that allow me to progress towards my goals (having an eternal family, a good job, and time to spend with my family). Spending my time wisely has keep me on track for achieving these goals and has helped me to be happy as I seek to accomplish the desires of my heart. I like to joke around and enjoy myself. Having a good time, and helping others to have fun and love life is important. I love to eat food especially chocolate chip cookies. I also love to read Books like the Hobbit or Elantris.
Why I am a Mormon
I have been a member of the church for my whole life. Yet my testimony has come as I have gone through the personal experience of feeling Gods love for me. I continue to follow the gospel because of the continued witness from the Holy Ghost, which comes to me when I read the scriptures every day and ponder the words of the prophets. I am a Mormon because the Book of Mormon is true. As I have read the Book of Mormon I have felt it change my life. The principles and doctrine that I read feel right and give me good feelings about myself and others. My testimony of the Book of Mormon has come as I have studied the word of the prophets. Each time I read verses and really ponder what is said I grow in faith. As I have read and as I repent each and every day I feel my faith in Jesus Christ grow. I have a hope for the future that someday I will be able to be married for time and all eternity in the temple. The Church of Jesus Christ is true. I know that my experiences in this life are for my good and help me come closer to God. I love how being a Mormon helps me grow closer to my family and to my friends. All who really seek after God and follow his doctrine will as they pray receive awnsers from God. I know this because he has always awnsered my prayers.
Why do Mormons go on missions?
Mormons go on missions because they care about others. They know the power that the atonement has in there own lives and so they want to share the good things that have come because of there faith in Jesus Christ. They also serve because of how the gospel can bless families and change peoples lives for the better.
How has attending Church services helped you?
Attending church services has helped me gain many lifelong friends, good social interactions happen at church. I also have the opportunity to take the sacrament at church. The sacrament when taken worthily has blessed my life because it renews my baptisimal covenants. It helps me keep myself clean and focoused on what is good in life.
How has The Book of Mormon helped you understand the purpose of life?
The Book of Mormon has helped understand the purpose of live. It has helped me, the experiences that happened to prophets, show us what life is really about. When Abinadi was burned, he showed us that even thou he was in a lot of pain, he did what he needed to do; so that in the afterlife he could stand before God and say, I did everything in his power to teach King Noah. The Book of Mormons war chapters show how people can have purpose and believe in God even in very trying situations. Moroni was an example of this and how he lived his life in adversity but never backed down. You could go on and on about different Book of Mormon experiences; that show us how we need to stand up for whats right and live our lives in such a way, that allow us to live with our famalies foever. Living with our famalies forever is the purpose of life. We all eventually die on this earth but the way we live and how we use the Book of Mormon experiences will help us overcome the challenges of life and feel purpose in a toubled world. The words of prophets give direction in life. The Book of Mormon is scripture from the mouth of the holy prophets.
Please share your feelings/testimony of the Restoration of the Gospel.
I know that the restoration of the gospel is true because of the Book of Mormon and what it teaches. The stories in that book are real and feel real to me as I read them. The spirit has testified to me that the Book of Mormon is true. If the Book of Mormon is true then it means that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the priesthood was restored through him. I was in a Nauvoo pageant a long time ago, yet from that experience I felt that Joseph Smith was a prophet that even though the saints went through horrible things there faith in Jesus Christ stayed strong because they also had a testimony of the Book of Mormon.
How can your talents and gifts bless others?
God has given each of his children different gifts to help them bless others during this life. As we use our talents to help others it brings joy and peace to our lives. A good basketball player can bring othes joy as they watch him play. This good basketball player may not know how to play piano but loves to listen to music. This allows a piano player who loves basketball but can't play to bless the Basketball players life and vice versa.
How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?
The Book of Mormon has brought me closer to God because of the stories of the prophets. Each prophet was a normal human being and had trials. Yet faith and prayer allowed these normal men to do incredible things. The Book of Mormon has also brought me closer to my family because of the truthes that are taught. Repentance is always possible and being a good person comes as we read good Books. The Book of Mormon is a great book and trully teaches of God.
Why/How do you share the gospel with your friends?
I share the gospel with my friends by being a good example. If my friends don't ask questions and don't see any difference in the way I live, then something is wrong. The best way to teach is by showing your love for others. As friends feel the love you have for them they will want to learn what you believe because they will respect who you are. This will allow for many good conversations about the gospel.
What have you done successfully to shield your family from unwanted influences?
The best way to shield a family from unwanted influences is to read the Book of Mormon and pray every day to know how to protect those you love and yourself. Keeping televisions in public places and having good friends is important for keeping unwanted influences out of the family.
Think about your everyday activities. What are things you act upon each day where you cannot see the end results? How does faith move you to action?
As a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints, often you go out knocking on doors, and talking to everyone you see, all day for weeks on end; with no one caring to hear what you want to tell them. Often this can be sad and can result in a loss of hope. Yet you can keep going because God, when you do what he says will bless you and will prepare people. the faith that the atonement of Jesus Christ is for everyone motivates to do the will of the lord. He loved us to give everything. Why should we not give, even when we don't see the end result. God will see us and reward us as we do this because he wants us to love others.
Can you talk about the missions of the Church and your participation in them?
I am a full time Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I wake up every morning at 6:30, I then work out for 30 minutes. Then I eat, followed by study of the sciptures. Then I go outside and open my mouth and tell everyone about he restored gospel. This is a full time commitment every day all day for 2 years. I know that a mission is hard work. I also know that the mission is worth it.
What is hope and what do you hope for?
Hope is believing that some event or some joy can come to pass. I hope that I can marry in God temple with an eternal companion. I hope to have a family and to have at least 5 boys so that I can have my own basketball team. I hope to be able to return and live with my Heavenly Father with my family. I hope that many of my friends and many of the people if not all the people I met can return to my Heavenly Father with me. I hope that the sun will rise that my life has a purpose and that I can keep pushing forward with a steadfast faith in Christ. I hope to be able to avoid sin and to repent quickly. I hope for Eternal Life.
How can we develop greater harmony in our homes?
We can develop greater Harmony in the home by living gospel principles and showing our example of righteous living to the members in our family. I know that doing family home evening every week is key to a happy home. I have grown closer to my parents as well as my siblings by the time having a lesson and singing songs most importantly eating a treat. Having dinners together as a family has helped me as well. It has helped me appreciate people and not just the T.V. Doing family activities together is what can make a strong family. As well as daily family scripture study. Even if scripture study as a family is tough it can truly help young men have a desire to serve missions and it can help young women desire to get married in the temple. Doing Church callings and home teaching can also make your home stronger.
How I live my faith
Right now I am a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. This means that I spend all my time teaching the restored gospel. I go and visit ward members who aren't coming to church and try to become there friends and help them come back and endure to the end. I know that as we really change our lives by following Jesus Christ to the best of our abilities, we will grow in faith, with a hope of a better world. I know that good works enable us to come closer to Jesus Christ and returning to live with our Heavenly Father. We all have trials and tribulations in this life. We can look at anyone we know and think there life is perfect, but I am sure that they have many trials as well. Some trials are easier to see like an addiction to smoking. Others are more hidden. That is why I live my faith best by loving all others, no matter what. I have no idea if my fellow human beings are hurting inside so i try my best to smile often and help them be happy by joking around or making sure that they are okay when there hurting. A kind word and a smile can do a lot more then a frowny face and sad words.
