Hi I'm Jamie!

I'm a teacher, a wife, and soon-to-be mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a recent college graduate and have just started my first professional job. After a few changes in majors, cross-country moves, and three universities I am finally a teacher. I have 5 siblings and have always had a certain affinity for children (much like my mother), so I knew from a young age that I would teach. Just before my last semester of school, I married my best friend. Now, we're expecting our first child! Besides consuming my time with the care and learning of children, I also love read. I've been wrapped up in the Hunger Games and dying to find out what happens in the Divergent series, but my favorite book is still The Anatomy of Peace. I have a love/hate relationship with running (mostly hate), I miss Cross-fit workouts (they're too expensive for my budget), and I have always loved to swim. I was a lifeguard for a while and have taught swim lessons for years. It looks like this year a bulging baby bump will be keeping me from it. Other than that I love to laugh, sing, and dance (none of which are done very well). Oh and pickles! How could I forget fried pickles? I'm from the South, so I think it goes without saying, I love Southern comfort food - especially when my California husband so loving cooks it for me!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I choose to be so. Having been raised as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I have made sure to build my own testimony of the truthfulness of The Book of Mormon and the Gospel of Jesus Christ through personal study and prayer. My parents were both raised in other Christian denominations. After they were married, they were trying to decide which church they should join. After searching out many congregations they were uncertain. There were so many great places of worship, but which was right for them as a family? My father had been given a copy of The Book of Mormon in college and had never read it and thought maybe they should. He saw two Mormon missionaries on the side of the road and asked for another book. Eventually, after having the missionaries in their home and learning more about the Gospel of our Savior, Jesus Christ, my parents made the decision to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My parents' loving examples and prayerful testimonies helped me to build my own testimony and find what church was right for me. Within the walls of chapel, the pages of The Book of Mormon, and the rooms of the Temple I have felt more peace, joy, and love than I can find through any other means. Those feelings of the Holy Ghost are why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith by family and personal prayers, as well as, scripture study. This can be difficult for me, but everyday I have another opportunity to try again. I also enjoy visiting teaching which is an organization set up to help fellowship with the other woman I attend church with. This helps to build a stronger community as we get to know one another. I also help to serve those who may be in need.
