Hi I'm Larry Toups
I was born in Texas. I have worked for the same company for 42 years. I am a Mormon.
I love backpacking, kayaking, water sports and cycling. I am approaching retirement and really looking forward to being able to travel and visit children and grand children. I love my wife and best friend Lynda. We would like to serve a mission for the church after I retire.
Why I am a Mormon
I started meeting with the missionaries in September 1986. I had married a woman who had three children and was a member of the church. I felt like it was important for us to go to church together even though I had no plans to join. I was impressed by the members that I met, they were not perfect but they were sincerely trying to be the best Christians they good be. They were very friendly and I soon felt like I had found a home. I particularly liked the importance placed on our families. I did agree to meet with the missionaries so I could learn more about the church I was attending. They taught me the principles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I had them teach every principle in the lessons from both the Book of Mormon and the Bible. After much prayer and study, I was baptized in November of 1986. I have a very strong testimony of he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know that Joseph Smith was the first prophet in this dispensation, I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer and through his sacrifice all my sins can be forgiven if I repent and endure to the end. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet for our day and our time. We are all children of our Heavenly Father and He wants us to live worthy so we can be with Him again. My life has changed totally since I found the church. I have grown spiritually and my testimony continues to grow. My knowledge of the Gospel keeps has given me the strength to get through the hard times and enjoy the gifts that I have received.
How I live my faith
In the years I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I have learned much from my callings in the church. We don't have paid ministry in our church so every job is done by the members. I have taught Sunday School, been a leader in adult men's organization, worked with the youth, served as Scout Master, and have had more opportunities to serve than I can count. I try very hard to live my faith 24/7. I truly believe in being a good example to all that I come in contact with. Serving others brings me great satisfaction. The example of Jesus Christ shows us what we should strive to be like in dealing with our fellow man.
