Hi I'm Melissa
I am a mother of 2 children and a wife to a college professor. I am going blind. I'm a Mormon.
I was 14 when I was diagonised with a rare eye disease, called Retinitus Pigmentosa. I have lost most of my vision. I have a total of 1% of vision with both eyes. Life has a way of really throwing some curve balls. However, the one thing that I have learned is that you must simply run with it & live the best life that you can. Having children is one sure way of not allowing life to slow down. I love to cook, decorate, blog, craft & make many things & plan parties. Many of these things have gotten harder as I have lost more of my eye sight. That has not stopped me though & I am so thankful for a very supportive family.
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because, I know that I am a daughter of a Father in Heaven who loves me & is very concerned about my needs. I grew up in a home where the gospel was taught and I had the examples of 2 righteous parents. I want the same for my own children, that they can grow up in a home where the gospel is not only taught, but where it is also lived. I had the opportunity to serve a mission and to teach the gospel to the good people in California. I was taught & guided by the Holy Ghost, and my testimony grew each day. I hope that as my children continue to grow that they will be able to recognize the spirit of the Lord. I am a Mormon, because, I know that I belong to the only true church that is established on the earth today. I am a very blessed woman!
How I live my faith
I live my faith by trying to express my gratitude each day through both personal & family prayer. I know the importance of prayer in my life & in the life of my family. The Lord has blessed me in so many ways. I serve with the women in our church, I love to take in meals after a baby has been born or after a loved one has passed away. I enjoy sharing in the sisterhood that the church has afforded me to have. I know that as I continue to have faith in my Savior & live the commandments that he will continue to bless me & that he will make my vision be alright; even if it is only 1%. I think that I can see everything. That is what my faith provides for me. I AM a blessed woman!
