Hi I'm Tyson Bolkcom

I'm a Missionary!

About Me

My name is Tyson Bolkcom, but for the next 2 years you can call me Elder Bolkcom. I am from Idaho Falls, Idaho, and am serving in the Mississippi Jackson mission. I'm not your typical missionary who left at age 19; it took me til I was nearly 22 to accept the calling. I don't regret waiting; I'm just happy to be out here doing what I'm doing, and that is strengthening the faith of the members in my ward, and trying to bring others to that same faith. I am the light of the world (Mathew 5) I think lots of people see missionaries and don't see real people so here is who I am behind the name tag: My name is Tyson. I love to hang out with friends, many of whom are not of my faith. I was working at Wal-Mart before my mission, and was going to school during the fall and winter. I play acoustic guitar and I love my rock n roll music. Anything from classic rock to hard rock. I drive a Honda CRX, she is my baby and I miss her! I love to take pictures and make movies. During the winter I LOVE to snowboard; another thing I really miss. I come from a family of all boys. 5 boys, me being the oldest. One brother is currently serving his mission as well, so it's cool to send letters to him.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church, but even lifelong members have to go through a personal conversion. I went through mine around the age of 20. A testimony comes after a trial of your faith, and after the trials I endured, I received that confirmation that what I believed and what I was doing was true. I was also around that time received that spiritual prompting to go and share my testimony with the world for 2 years. So here I am! One experience that strengthened my faith was when I was 14 years old and was in a rock-climbing accident. I fell 30 to 50 ft and broke my leg and pelvis, and received a concussion. I was in the hospital for a month and I was not supposed to have survived that accident, but I did. I believe my Heavenly Father preserved me because I still have work to do here. And I believe I am doing that work right now, in Mississippi.

How I live my faith

As a missionary, I live my faith by everything I do. I wake up in the morning and begin my day with a prayer. My companion and I participate in several prayers throughout the day. We spend the day visiting members and nonmembers, sharing the principles of the gospel to all who will hear our message, and simply serving other people as much as we can. "When you are in service to others, you are only in service to your God." A mission is not a duty, it is a privilege.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Tyson Bolkcom
We increase our faith in Christ simply by trusting Him and following His example and his commandments, which are very simple. But a testimony comes only after a trial of your faith. One example is myself, coming out here to serve a mission, still not completely sure if I was up to it. But I knew that I had been called of God to do this work, so I took a leap of faith, and He has helped me every hour, every day, and is continuing to do so. He is blessing me and my family back home. If you follow Him, you WILL be blessed. I have a witness of that. Show more Show less
