Hi I'm Tom

I'm a husband and a father of four, Administrator, a School Board Director, I play sax in a Rock and Roll band, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been married for 21 years and have four children. I love my family, they mean everything to me. Most of the activities I do surround them. I have coached them in baseball, basketball and football for the past 8 years. This year I was selected to announce the home football games at the High School. I am currently serving on the local School Board and am involved in many local school activities and events. For employment I work as an Administrator in the housing industry. On the side, I play saxophone in a rock and roll band. We primarily play 50's and 60's rock. I love the outdoors and to hike and hunt for fossils. I am a huge football fan and watch 3 or 4 games a week during the season. I like camping and being in nature. I am a member of the Rosebud Sioux tribe, from South Dakota.

Why I am a Mormon

I never really knew what I wanted to be, or what I wanted out of life when I was younger. I seemed to drift from passion to passion with no sure direction. I came to the decision that I needed to find a bigger purpose in my being, and in my life's direction. In my journey to renew myself I found a new group of friends and changed my lifestyle and started to go to church and really listen to what was being said, and what I was feeling inside. I realized that life was an amazing gift, and by learning to love myself, and love other people, my life could have meaning and purpose beyond my imagination. Shortly after this change I read the Bible and the Book of Mormon, I wanted to know for myself if what I was hearing, reading and feeling was true. I wanted to know if Jesus Christ was real, if he knew me, and loved me. It has been over twenty-five years since I started this journey to discover the true meaning of this life and if our Savior was real. My life has been so richly blessed by knowing of the love of Jesus for me and my family. Life is not always easy, sometimes it's down right hard, but knowing that my Savior is there for me, gives me comfort that no other knowledge can bring. (Romans 8: 38-39)

How I live my faith

The teachings of the church have helped me become a better father and example for my children. There are activities for husbands and wives that help us better define our families needs and ideas for keeping us strong as a family unit. One of these, we call Family Home Evening, is one night a week, where the phones, iPods, computers, etc are turned off, and we just have family time. The youth group that meets weekly is a very positive experience for my children. There they can make friends with other children of similar values. their activities range from camp-outs to hikes, sports activities, and learning about themselves. The activity my children most look forward to are the dances. Imagine, over 600 screaming teenagers dancing and having a great time to good music. Because of our values, we do not have alcohol or drugs to worry about. The kids can cut loose and be kids. Our church is operated by volunteers. Nearly everyone that goes to church has a job. It's not that you have to, but it is fun to be involved and to help out. I currently volunteer in the Sunday School program. My job is to help make sure everyone knows where their class is, to help the teachers, and to fill in and teach from time to time. I love my job, it is good to be involved and to get to know other people in my church.
