Hi I'm Shanan Cameron

I'm a Mormon. I am the mother of two boys. The youngest of nine kids. Aunt to 58 nieces and nephews. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in a very small town and homebody that I was, I thought I would always be in that environment. But I have had the opportunity to live in a variety of places including Albuquerque, NM and a mission to Colombia, South America. To my surprise I have ended up in Southern California to raise my two boys. They are wonderful and it has been exciting and interesting to watch and help them grow in an environment so different than the one I grew up in. And I have learned when you are where the Lord wants you to be ultimately all things work for your good and you get to grow and progress in ways you couldn’t imagine. Something I love are stories, all kinds of stories. Ones that are true and also fiction, family stories, stranger’s stories, fairy stories. Stories that teach, train, caution, entertain and delight. I enjoy hearing them and telling them. I particularly love the stories in the scriptures that teach us of the prophets of old and show God’s Plan of Happiness thought out the ages. I love to apply them to me and my situation. And always they remind me of Heavenly Father’s love for his children.

Why I am a Mormon

We are told in the scriptures that we learn “line upon line and precept upon precept” and my testimony has come to me that way. I have been blessed to always know that I am a child of God. To be able to sense and know his great love for me even when I felt unlovable. Because I knew this, as I grew and learned the other teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, they made sense and I could find and feel their truth. I came to understand that Heavenly Father’s greatest act of kindness to us was to send his Son, Jesus Christ to complete his plan for us and atone for our sins. I know Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. To know Christ, his sacrifice and love is life changing. I know he wants me, all of us, to live with him again and has prepared the way for us. As a teenager I read the Book of Mormon and prayed to know it was true. That was the small beginning of testimony that would grow stronger and deeper has I continued to read and study. It wasn't until my mission that I gained a strong testimony of Joseph Smith. Until then it was more like I couldn't see why his story wouldn't be true than knowing it was true. Then one day an investigator challenge us about the Joseph Smith story. His pastor had been telling him the "truth" about Joseph Smith. And as he degraded and slandered Joseph Smith the Spirit bore witness tome of the greatness of the man. I couldn't let someone tell lies about him, not after he had sacrificed everything to restore the Church of Christ to the earth. Joseph Smith is the prophet of the restoration, I am ever grateful to him. All though my life I learned to lean on the Lord. He wants what is best for me and he never fails me. I hope to live in such a way to return to him. In the meantime I testify he is my Savior and he delights to bless us abundantly always.

How I live my faith

I head a talk once that put forth the idea that we can seek things (actions, covenants, ideas) that lead us and bind us to Christ or we can choose other things that will bind us to something else. Since then I have desired to bind myself more to Christ. And for me the most obvious way to do this is to do what Jesus would do if he were here i.e. love others. Going to Church weekly gives me a chance to renew my baptismal covenant and serve others. Right now I serve with the kids and I enjoy them and am strengthen by them. They are learning the basics of the Gospel and the Holy Ghost strongly confirms these basic truths. They are so eager and willing to learn and believe. I learn a lot about faith from those beautiful children. Truly our relationship can help us understand God's love for us and what to value. Being a mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend I have the opportunities to love and be loved that teach me about how Christ loves us. Also I know that how doing good in little way every time we can is the only to truly improve the world.
