Hi I'm Spencer Young

I am 20 years old, I am a Mormon,...and I live in a van down by the river

About Me

I'm huge into combat sports like Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and wrestling. They're basically my life. I like the feeling of control I have when ever I'm on a mat just rolling with a guy. All of the success or failure you have in these sports is all on you and that's just beautiful to me. Right now I'm serving in the Florida Tallahassee Mission. It's been a pretty awesome area so far, I'll get back to you if that changes. I was born in Utah, used to live in Missouri, and graduated High School in Gaylord, Michigan. I was the only kid my age in that town who was a member. I'm enrolled at Brigham Young University-Idaho, but plan on transfering to big boy BYU after the mission. I love joking around, and just being awesome.

Why I am a Mormon

This was a question I asked myself for the longest time. I seriously didn't know why I went to the Mormon church. I didn't have any friends who were mormon, didn't like how I got treated by other members, and I really didn't know if I actually believed in the church. When I was 13, I didn't believe in God and only went to church because I didn't want to make my Mom cry. For three years I was inactive while still going every sunday. These three years were not times in my life that I like to look back on. I was depressed, self-concious, angy, and a whole lot of things I didn't want to be. I didn't like the way my emotions controlled me. Everything that I did was a direct result of the mood I was in, so I ended up doing a lot of stupid stuff I didn't want to do. When I was 16, I started wrestling and MMA. I fell in love with it and grew leaps and bounds physically and mentally. But with wrestling comes weight cutting. To keep my mind off of the hunger, I for some reason just picked up the Book of Mormon and started reading. When I finished it I all of the sudden just realized it's all true. Every single word of that book is from God, it has to be. When I accepted this and started going back to church, I found that control that I always wanted. I gained happiness, peace, just so much awesome blessings. The blessings I get from the church just allow me to be myself and I love that. So yeah that's why I'm Mormon.

How I live my faith

Well I'm on a Mission right now and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. In Alma 29:9 it talks about putting your glory in God, and allowing yourself to be an instrument in His hand to bring someone to repentance. So I'm just trying to be that Instrument that God needs me to be.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Spencer Young
He is our loving Heavenly Father, being the Father of our Spirits. He has a body; similiar to ours but His is perfect, immortal, and way more awesome than ours. Just like you love your children or you parents love you; God has a pure, unconditional love for all of us. He wants us to return to Him and be like Him. Which is why we are on the Earth. To prove ourselves worthy of His prescence. Show more Show less
