Hi I'm Sherie

I'm a musician, but my degree is in Computer Science. My husband and I are raising seven boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I play the piano and the cello. I enjoy digital scrapbooking, home decorating, and sewing when I have the time, which is not too much right now! I'm busy as a stay-at-home mom with my seven boys, ranging from baby to high schooler.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Mormon faith, but I have gained a testimony of my own through the years. I remember the first time I felt that Heavenly Father knew me personally as His daughter and that He loved me. From there I continued to have experiences with prayer and personal revelation that taught me that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, that Joseph Smith was a true prophet, and that this church has the fulness of the gospel. I love the Book of Mormon. When I'm feeling low or frazzled, I open that book and begin to read. It doesn't take long before I feel the calming influence of the Spirit. I feel pure joy and great love for others. I feel closer to my Savior. It is truly a powerful book.

How I live my faith

I am in the leadership of the women's organization in my ward. I help with and participate in the visiting teaching program, which is a way for the sisters to look out for each other and help each other in times of need. We visit assigned sisters each month to talk, see if they have any needs, and present a short spiritual message. I sometimes teach lessons in our Sunday women's meetings. I also help plan and carry out midweek activities for the women, where we can fellowship and strengthen one another spiritually and temporally.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We acknowledge Joseph Smith as a prophet of God. We honor him as an instrument in God's hands in restoring the ancient truths of the divine gospel to the earth again. But we do not worship him. We worship God the Father, and the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

The term Mormon is a nickname given to us because we believe in the Book of Mormon as the word of God, to go hand in hand with the Bible as another witness of Jesus Christ. Our official church name emphasizes that we believe in and worship Jesus Christ as our Savior. We call this book the Book of Mormon much of that book was written by Mormon. Mormon was an ancient prophet that lived on the American continent 400 years after the death of Jesus Christ. He abridged the records that had been kept by the prophets for the previous 1000 years, including the account of Jesus Christ's visit to the American continent after His resurrection. He then added some of his own writings before turning the records over to his son Moroni. It was Moroni who completed the records and then buried them according to God's command, to be brought forth in our day as another testament of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
