Hi I'm Barbie

I was born in Phoenix and raised in Utah. I am a community and international volunteer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to be active and challenge myself in sports and athletics. I am cyclist and finished my first 100-mile race. My favorite places to be are on the lake, in the canyon or at the beach with friends and family. I love sailing, wake boarding, snorkeling, snowboarding, cycling and lake surfing. Although I don't play basketball much, I love to watch. I am a big sports fan especially when it comes to college basketball and March Madness. I love to sing, dance, cook and ldevelop new hobbies. I currently work at a financial consulting company helping retirees plan for retirement. I am involved with events, seminars, workshops, client relations, marketing, public relations, Social Security planning and publicity. One of my favorite hobbies is travel. I have visited over 13 states and countries. Other than the United States, I have lived in Italy and Brasil, and I speak Portuguese as a second language. I hope to learn Spanish and Italian. I served a mission and Brazil and loved teaching and serving the Brazilians. I find joy in serving my community and participate in many local non-profit organizations. I have helped build homes in my community for low-income families, and I regularly serve at the local soup kitchen. I also volunteer for a non-profit organization in Mozambique that teaches self-sufficiency to the Mozambicans. I am not yet married but can't wait to marry someday.

Why I am a Mormon

My ancestors were pioneers and I was born into the church. I believed the teachings as a child but when I reached adolescents, I questioned if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was truly the church of Christ himself. I wanted to belong to the Savior's church. I wanted to do what he has asked me to do; however, I wasn't sure if I was doing his will. I prayed to know if the church I belonged to truly was Christ's church. I was 12 years old when I knelt in prayer to ask God if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was indeed the church of Christ. In that moment, I received an answer so clear that was as if to say, "You have always known it is true." I felt so much joy and peace. I have committed to serve the Lord and do what he has asked me to do for the rest of my life. I am so happy to belong to the Church of Jesus Christ. His gospel and teachings are truly the path to happiness and eternal life. He has reassured me time after time that I am on the right path and I will be proud to meet him one day.

How I live my faith

I serve as the stake Institute co-chair of my singles stake. This is where over four hundred young single adults come to an evening religion class and learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe that feasting on the word of Christ will not only give us peace and joy, but will help us become like Christ. I love to help the Institute program grow and help members of the stake come closer to Christ. I am also a visiting teacher. I have learned that visiting teaching is more than delivering a monthly message. It is about loving, serving and sacrificing for the sisters we teach. I also have the opportunity to speak in sacrament meetings and teach lessons to the those in my ward.
