Hi I'm Erik

I rock the guitar, make movies, snowboard & longboard, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm the oldest in a family of 7 and am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Detroit Michigan. At home I played guitar in a band with my dad and 2 of my younger brothers. I absolutely love going longboarding, snowboarding and cruising through the mountians in my Jeep. When I return home from my mission I will be going back to school studying in digital media. My hope is to one day work for a recording studio as a sound engineer. Being a missionary has been one of the most challenging things I have ever done, but it is totally worth it. Watching the Gospel of Christ change people's lives for the better is truly amazing, and being part of that change right from the beginning makes it even more awesome.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was born and raised in this church, there came a time in my life where I knew I had to stop riding off of my parent's beliefs and find out for myself if this was the true church. I finally decided to read the Book of Mormon all the way through and just ask God to tell me if it is true. It took quite awhile and more than just one prayer to really come to a know for myself that the Book of Mormon was true, but God did answer. Now every time I read the Book of Mormon, the Bible, attend church or hear a church speaker, I get an overwhelming feeling of peace. I know this church is true, Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and the Book of Mormon will bring people the fullness of joy they are looking for in life.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a mission for the church in Detroit Michigan. My mission will last a total of 24 months and I will return home somewhere around June 2013. Missions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are a little different than other churches. We fully dedicate these 2 years to preaching the gospel. We don't return home for holidays, don't go to school, don't hold a job, don't get paid for our service, email our families once a week and only call twice a year. Our responsibility is to spread the message of the restored gospel. We do that through inviting people to hear our message, giving service for individuals and the communities where we're assigned, and testifying of the truthfulness of our message. Before I came out on my mission I taught a primary class at church that consisted of 9 or 10 year olds. This church has some of the best child and youth groups I have ever seen. I loved teaching primary and I look forward to doing it again when I get home.
