Hi I'm Devin

I'm a husband, father of two, CPA, PhD student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love that I am married to my best friend, and that we have two great kids. My family has brought me more joy than I ever thought possible. They are my favorite thing. After serving as a missionary in California and graduating from college, I worked as a CPA for a few years before returning to school to get my PhD. I am currently back in school getting a PhD in business/accounting to hopefully better the business world and help young minds gain a thirst for knowledge. I love to learn new things. I love watching documentaries, reading interesting things, and attempting to learn how to fix things around my house. I also love golfing, watching sports, watching theater, trying new restaurants and going on dates with my wife.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because living the teachings of Jesus Christ makes me happy. I believe Jesus Christ is the Savior of mankind. I believe He came to earth 2000 years ago to atone for our sins and help us see how to inherit eternal life. In doing so, He set up His church and gave His authority to those worthy to continue to teach mankind how to apply His atonement to gain happiness and eternal life. Unfortunately, mankind killed these men who held the authority and the clarity of Christ's message. His teachings lived on, but the authority, ordinances, and church structure (12 apostles, etc.) did not. As in ancient times, God and Jesus Christ called a Prophet to Restore the authority, truth, and structure of Christ's church. I believe this was done in 1820 when Joseph Smith was called as the Prophet of the Restoration. Similar to Moses, Samuel, Noah, etc., God gave Joseph Smith the authority and knowledge requisite to restore His church, His doctrines, and His ordinances. Finally, the Gospel in its completed form was on the earth again! I am a Mormon because this knowledge has helped me through tough times in my life and I have seen it help countless others as well.

How I live my faith

I attempt to live my faith each and every day. My faith and my family are the things most important to me. As a husband I live my faith by striving to have a Christ-centered marriage. I believe that you love those whom you serve. I constantly try and serve my wonderful wife and treat her better than she expects. As a father, I live my faith by attempting to instill in my children a testimony of Jesus Christ as their Savior and Redeemer. I want them to grow in faith and intelligence. We read scriptures, pray, and make sure to eat dinner together as a family. At church I live my faith by leading a group of men in my congregation. I am humbled by their dedication to their families and faith; they often teach me more than I could share with them. In short, I live my faith by trying my best to be a good person and by living the teachings of Jesus Christ. I believe God's plan for us is a plan of happiness. As we live His teachings we will be happy and we will help others to be happy.
