Hi I'm John Gilson

I'm a retired teaher, logger, carpenter and farmer. I am a firefighter and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a "country boy" and enjoy the peace and quite of country living. I have been married to my college sweetheart over 53 years and enjoy my children and grandchildren. I have lived and worked in small communities from norther Alberta to Arizona. I find my greatest contentment in service to others in the church and the community. That is why I have joined the fire department. My experience as a carpenter has given me a love for building which I use often in these service opportunities.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 28 I had trhe opportunidty to read the Book of Mormon. When I had completed reading I prayed (a new experience for me) and the spirit gave me a warm feeling to attest that the book is true. I surmised that since the Book of Mormon is true scripture Joseph Smith had to have been God's instrument in bringing it forth, hence he must have been a prophet. If he was a prophet then all his other religious teachings must be true and the LDS church the one true church on the earth today. I joined the church at that time and have felt good about the decision ever since.

How I live my faith

I am an active church member striving always to live the doctrines and teachings set forth.  Since the church has no paid ministry, the members share the ministorial work. I have worked in almost all aspects of this work from primary teacher to local leader. I strive to live an exempary life helping others where ever I see a need.
