Hi I'm Vanessa

I love the changing seasons, flowers, gardens, storms and photography-especially together. I'm an Athletic Trainer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the baby of 4 girls with the most amazing parent's anyone could ever have! My family means everything to me and I am the kind of person that will do anything and everything I can to make them happy. Right now, I am serving in the Argentina Mendoza mission for my Father in Heaven. My father started teaching me how to play sports as soon as I could crawl so naturally, I became an athlete playing basketball and softball all throughout my school years. I stopped after high school to focus on college. I wanted to be a doctor but also wanted to somehow stay connected with sports so I found a happy medium and thus became an Athletic Trainer (the person who assists players who become injured on the field or court). For the last 3 years, I have enjoyed growing veggies and, with my mom and lots of experimenting, we developed our own special salsa recipe. We bottle enough to last until the next harvest. Good gardens require work and at the end of the day, there is nothing more relaxing than sitting on a bench, bare feet in the dirt, gazing at the sunset and just taking in the beauty of the land! Lessons are learned and blessings abound in the garden. You truly reap what you sow. I believe sunsets are portraits from God, pansies have faces, plants grow better when you talk to them, and salsa should be chunky. The most comforting smell ever is fresh-cut grass. Getting your feet and hands in the mud is good for you! I believe that your actions speak much louder than words.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in Utah and was baptized when I was 8 years old. My mom always encouraged me to go to church and find something more in this life, but the choice was always mine and therefore I never really got into church. I was more interested in playing football with the boys rather than go to Young Women's and learn how to sew. I didn't really understand what the church was all about. I lived my life with a belief that as long as you were a really good person with strong morals and you believed in God, that it was enough. I never mistreated or spoke ill of anyone, I would help whenever I was needed, and I never got caught up in "worldly things." My focus was specifically on education and sports. I never gave it much thought when one day my mom said to me, "You're going to go on a mission someday." Once I got into college I met some truly wonderful people that became some of my best friends. They were all Mormons and I loved being around them. Somehow, they were different than the Mormons I grew up with. Over time, I felt a super strong desire to start reading the Book of Mormon and pray to know the truth-I honestly felt it, nobody told me to do it. On October 06, 2009, I started reading and finished December 24, 2009 and I knew!! I became active in church, received my Patriarchal Blessing, Temple Recommend, a church calling and am now serving a mission! This gospel has changed my entire outlook on life. I know we have to make promises with our Heavenly Father and work to keep those promises, but I have never been more happy to do so! There were bumps along the way but I have truly received a witness of the truth after the trial of my faith. I am so honored to be doing this work and to have the knowledge found in this Gospel. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ so very much and I know it is because of our Father in Heaven that I have been blessed with so many beautifully amazing things in this life and they'll continue in the life to come!

How I live my faith

I was active in the church for about a year and a half and wanted to do more, so I told my bishop that I wanted a church calling and also mentioned my desire to serve a mission. About 2 months prior to starting the paperwork required for the mission, I was called as a substitute teacher for the children and I absolutely loved it! I was the "sub" but always had a class! I learned so much from teaching-who knew! And those little ones were so fun and precious. I tried to get involved with the service projects throughout the summer and I love the feeling I got when I knew I was helping people. I don't like being served, I love serving other people. One of the greatest things about growing a garden is always having fresh produce to give away!! I also had a strong feeling in November 2010 to serve a mission and upon completing my college education and passing by certification exam to be an Athletic Trainer in February 2011, I knew going on a Mission for the Lord was exactly what He wanted me to do. It is truly the greatest work I could ever do and I am so deeply honored to bear His name on my heart. I know the Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the Gospel and the promises I have made to my Father will last forever. I love my Heavenly Father and Savior with everything I am. I know everything I have is largely due to my wonderful family and friends and I will be forever grateful to them for standing by me and for all they have done for me!!!
