Hi I'm Mylan

I enjoy learning new things, reading, and playing music.

About Me

I am a university student, just graduated in Applied and Computational Mathematics, with emphases in Physics, Astronomy, and foreign languages. I'm about to start a MS program in Physics, specifically Acoustics. I speak Spanish and Samoan fluently (although I have never been to a Spanish-speaking country or Samoa, oddly enough), and am at a moderate level in Mandarin Chinese, and a beginning level in German. I am an Ambassador to Taiwan as a part of the Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance program, 2013. I play the piano, organ, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trombone, bass trombone, melodica, guitar and ukulele just a little bit, and I sing tenor. I enjoy making horrible puns, and am notoriously sarcastic. I am somewhat infamous for the quantity of loud Hawaiian shirts I own and wear. I am a master of Disney movie quotes, and absolutely love reading all sorts of novels.

Why I am a Mormon

It is not up to me to decide what is true, or to decide which church I should belong to. It is not about what I think, it is about what God tells me. God is the source of all truth, and it is up to me choose to follow Him. The idea that He wouldn't care what my religion is strikes me as completely false. I believe that He has a true church that exists to help His children learn true principles, and that helps them to live the kind of life that He wants for them. God loves us more than we can comprehend, and so He would never leave us in the dark on such important matters. My parents raised me as a Mormon, and always encouraged me to ask God if this church is truly His. I am not a member of this church simply because that is how I was raised. I have asked if this is the true church, and I have been given the answer so many times, in so many ways. I have truly seen miracles in my life, much more frequently than many would believe possible. I feel in my heart and know in my mind that this is what God wants for me, and for everybody. I know that this is the one true path that will ultimately lead me back to Him. I have tried to help others to learn for themselves the truth of the matter, and have seen lives changed and healed, and have seen such joy enter those who have embraced the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because I know that this is what I need to be, and I try and help all people learn and experience this for themselves.

How I live my faith

I try to be the person that God wants me to be. It is not just something that I do when it is convenient, or on Sundays. I have allowed it to become a part of who I am. I want to be proud of who I am, and even more importantly, I want my Heavenly Father to be proud of me. After all that he has done for me, and continues to do each day, He deserves all that I can give him. All He asks is that I live up to my potential. When I have to make a decision, I try to think of how it will affect me and those around me. True happiness comes from doing what you know is right, not from doing what you want to in the moment. It comes from never having to regret things that you have done in the past, and from being able to move on when you fall short. And I believe it especially comes from helping others to feel the same. I try to share my faith so that others can feel that happiness. We can all use more truth and light in our lives. And as I live my faith, I find more truth and light. I find that I am more satisfied with myself, with the way that I live my life. And I find peace and joy.
