Hi I'm Devan

I am a college student, a filmmaker, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up mostly in the state of Utah with a few years spent in England. I love sports, especially soccer. I love to make movies and I've been doing it with my brothers since I was 8 years old. I'm currently studying Digital Media with an emphasis in film making. I love to have fun, and making movies is the grown up way for me to play pretend.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church. My parents are members and their parents are members, so it wasn't hard to make the decision to become a member myself. It became a habit for me to read 2 or 3 short scriptures before I would go to bed as my parents encouraged me to do. One night, I remember reading the Book of Mormon and feeling very strange, but a good kind of strange. I didn't want to stop reading. I don't even think I understood what I read but I felt the power that comes from the scriptures. I grew up, I had a knowledge of the truth that led me to serve a full-time mission for the church. This was the best experience I could've had at my age. I know that Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father were aware of me and know what's best for me to this day, and it means the world to me.

How I live my faith

I've had a lot of chances to participate in my local church ward. I've been able to teach, organize fun events, and feed local members. It's a good chance to meet new people and to have fun!

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Devan
To testify in court is to give one's account of the events in question based on the knowledge of the individual. A testimony is the statement that the individual gives. Therefore, a testimony in Church terms is to declare what we know to be true relating to Church things, for example, if we testify of the truth of the Church, we are saying that we know for ourselves that the Church is true. Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Devan
The Book of Mormon is a compilation of inspired writings and history from the Americas. A man named Mormon compiled them and put them in a book, hence came the title "The Book of Mormon." the book itself chronicles the events of a people that were visited by Jesus Christ and their journeys of faith, much like the Bible. Many people are under the impression that Joseph Smith wrote this book. While it is true that Joseph Smith translated and published it in English, he did not write the work itself. To know for yourself if this is true, reading it is the best way to find out. But don't just read it, pray about it. Mormon's son Moroni completed his father's work after Mormon's death sometime after 400 A.D. encouraging us as the readers to find out for ourselves if their story is true and promises that through earnest prayer you can know this for yourself. I have done so, and I know it's true. Show more Show less
