Hi I'm Owen

I'm a retired CPA, and now am an author and speaker encouraging others to raise their emotional wellness. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife of 35 years and I have seven children and fifteen grandchildren. We're empty nesters now, but we greatly enjoy visiting often our children and grandchildren. Most are spread across the United States, so we travel to visit them. More than anything, we enjoy just hanging out and enjoying fun family activities together. I love to hike, camp, and to explore outdoor places. I get great satisfaction in enjoying nature. My wife has been a stay-at-home mom, which she has loved and found great satisfaction. I'm a certified public accountant, and have enjoyed working for large CPA firms and in the financial management of organizations. Another aspect of my life has been dealing with depression and anxiety since being a teen. Psychotherapy and medications along with prayer have helped me get to a better place. My professional work now focuses on trying to share my elevated joy through encouraging others to rise above the stigma and other obstacles to get help so they can be happier, too.

Why I am a Mormon

I love my Savior Jesus Christ and am so appreciative of His atonement and perfect example for me. I also am thankful for His commandments. Through striving to obey them, I'm happier. Through prayer and study, I believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His restored church on earth. My involvement in the Church has made me a much better person. So many church leaders and other members have helped and served me--especially in my most trying times. Leadership opportunities have given me opportunities to serve others, which have helped me grow. My Heavenly Father and Savior have blessed me greatly in helping me overcome my difficult challenges.

How I live my faith

Responding to the request of the leadership, I'm the Scoutmaster of the Boy Scout troop sponsored by our congregation. I love being with the young men in the outdoors. More importantly, I get great satisfaction in trying to serve them and helping them to gain strength and character. I also visit monthly three families in our neighborhood as a home teacher. Just like my own family, each deals with its own challenges and struggles. I try to understand these good people, help them feel loved and appreciated, and serve their needs.
