Hi I'm Jason

I grew up in southern Illinois and I'm a Mormon from birth.

About Me

I guess your first question is how did I end up out west. Well it has a lot to do with Mormon church. Since I was small I was prepared to serve a full-time mission for the Lord. When I got old enough I filled out the necessary paperwork and submitted them to church headquarters. About two weeks later I received a mission call asking me to serve in Salt Lake City (believe it or not there not all Mormons in Salt Lake). After I served my mission I went to junior college in Rexburg, Idaho at was then called Rick's. It has since become a four year college called BYU-Idaho. I had family that I lived with for a while in Hamilton, MT and I since got my own apartment in Missoula, MT.

Why I am a Mormon

The first part of my life I'd say it was out of respect for my mother. I followed her example of faith and continue to do so. After my mission however I had been exposed to different views of the Mormons. So I then concluded that I needed to develop my own testimony. I've researched other religons and Mormonism is the one that makes the most sense to me.

How I live my faith

I pay my tithing, hold a current temple recommend and partake of the sacarement. I also attend weekly church meetings. One thing I've found is that one can be a practicing Mormon and not stand out. Too many Mormons seem to wear their membership on their sleeve.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Jason
No Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. They revere, honor, and praise him. Joseph Smith was a prophet like Mohammed in the Muslim faith. Show more Show less

No, not at all infact young women are discouraged from serving missions. That is not to say their service is not appreciated women just have a different purpose in life than young men. I was the first out of extended family to serve a mission. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

As clearly stated in the eighth article of faith. We believe the bible to be the word of God... The articles of faith are 13 simple points of doctrine that the Mormons teach written by Joseph Smith in response to question about what Mormons believe. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Jason
I don't think there is a Mormon lifestyle. At least I've never known one. We're are different in the fact that a lot of Mormons practice what they preach. Just like any other faith we have our share of hypocrites. I personally don't drink, smoke, or do illeagl drugs. Not only because these are things we are taught to avoid in the Mormon church, but be because it's just common sense to avoid those things. I enjoy horsing around with my friends as much as the next guy. If you would like to know more just ask me. Show more Show less

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Jason
No, it does not. Hugh Nibley a well known Mormon scholar was very liberal. Whereas most Mormons are conservative. The 12th article of faith states "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law. So my interpretation of this is we must follow the president no matter if he or she is democrat or republican. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Jason
Members of the lords church gave 10% of their increase as far back as Abraham. Who honored his priesthood leader, Melchizedek by giving him tithes. So tithing is not a uniquely Mormon teaching but throughout all Christandom. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Jason
The word of wisdom that most people know the Mormons to believe is a health code laid out for Mormons which has to do with staying away from certain substances that are harmful to the ie tobbaco, alcohol, caffine. Those are the big three things most non-Mormons know about. What is not as commonly known is that word of wisdom states what we should consume as well. For example to eat meat sparingly. That all grains are good for you. I think if everyone in America adopted the word of wisdom as rule for living. We would not have the Show more Show less
