Adam: Mormon.

Hi I'm Adam

About Me

I was born in Pennsylvania, but grew up in southwestern New York. I love to play sports. My favorites are soccer, basketball, and volleyball. I played all these in high school plus baseball, and tennis. I am currently attending Utah Valley University studying Criminal Justice. My goal is to work in federal law enforcement. I love learning about the law and about the nation I live in. I enjoy the outdoors including, hunting, fishing, hiking, and anything else. I really enjoy spending my time with my family when they are around.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the LDS faith, but didn't always want to live it, in fact, I would say that for the majority of my life I have lived contrary to the LDS beliefs and the way that any representative of Jesus Christ should act. When I was about 14 years old I fell into some pretty bad things and it caused me to live a life that I never want to return back to. I tried as best as I could to rid my life of the evil that was present and lived the best that I could. I did have a belief in God and believed in his son as well as the beliefs of the LDS Church, but felt as I feel all teenagers feel, trapped! I felt like I couldn't be a normal kid because of all the rules that I had to follow. I had multiple opportunities to do many things that I shouldn't have like drink and indulge in immoral activities, but there was always something inside of me saying "don't do it." I have learned now that was the Holy Ghost guiding me to do whats right. I made it through these trials and graduated from high school. I left for college and was able to get my life together so I could serve a mission. I loved those two years of teaching others and helping them build their faith in God and in Christ. After my mission, I came home and returned to college where I am now. Life has been so much better, however, I again feel into temptation. I made some mistakes and am had to rely on the sacrifice of my Savior to repent and to put my life back in accordance with Gods will, again. I believe I have done so and am so happy now. I will never be able to repay the Lord for His loving mercy, but I can show my true repentance by following the commandments and living as I should have. I love this gospel and the many blessings that I receive as I do as the scriptures and prophets, both living and past, teach. I know that God lives and loves every one of His children no matter what they have done. There is always a way out of sin, it is through Christ. I know this and will always believe this.

Personal Stories

Why do Mormons go on missions?

Members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serve missions so that they can help others come unto Christ. This is our way of helping the church grow and allow for others to gain an understanding of our beliefs and also if desired join the church. Missionaries give others the opportunity to read the Book of Mormon and to pray to know if the church is true and if Joseph Smith was a true prophet.

How has the Book of Mormon brought you closer to God?

The Book of Mormon has been perhaps the biggest influence in my life. I have never read a book that is more influential and brings more peace in my life. About three years ago I went through one of the hardest events in my life. It caused me to question not only my belief in God, but also my desire to continue going to church and living the life that was expected of me. I put aside the scriptures hardly ever opening them, and if I did it was for a class in church or something like that. I didn't feel like it was really important even though the church leaders that I have all say that we should continually be feasting on the word. About 6 months ago I went through an internal change. I desided that I was really going to test God and the meaning of everything I believed. I had been just walking through the motions and not really doing what would help me progress. I decided to pick up the Book of Mormon and started reading. I was doing really well and then stopped again. I noticed a change when I stopped. I felt more unsure of things in my life. I also felt like I didn't know who I was. I started to read again. It is amazing the impact the scriptures and especially the Book of Mormon have in our life. I have never felt more peace. I have never felt more joy and surety of what I am doing in my life. I read daily and if I don't I can tell the difference. I know that Joseph Smith was inspired by God to translate this book. I know that with out the blessing of our Heavenly Father he would not have been able to complete the work that has come to be the Book of Mormon. I will be forever changed by this book.. I read it! I love it!

How I live my faith

I live my faith now by helping everyone I can come closer to Christ. I let them know they have a friend. So many people would make better choices if they had a friend to help them. That is what was a major factor in my being who I am today is the friends that I have. I also help people by serving them. In my personal life, I show my faith in Christ by not returning to old mistakes that I have left behind. Each day that I succeed, I know that I show the Lord my true faith in Him and that I have truly repented.
