Hi I'm Laura

I'm a Brazilian, a swimmer, a student council member and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 19 year old young woman who recently got called to serve in the Peru Lima North Mission. I was a student at the University of Utah when President Monson announced the most shocking and life changing announcement to all young people of the church. From the time I received my patriarchal blessing at 14, I knew the Lord wanted me to serve a mission. I knew that by 21 I would be preaching the gospel anywhere around the world. Little did I (or anyone in the church) know that young women would be able to serve at 19! Sitting in the conference center when the prophet made the change, I was excited but then my mood changed to anger and confusion. "How could Heavenly Father do this to me? He knew about my 5 year plan!!" My parents wanted me to start my papers right away and leave by December. But that was too soon! I felt my life was going 90mph in one direction and I couldn’t just make a quick Uturn. I needed time to process this change and think carefully about what I would do next. I at least wanted to finish my freshmen year at the U then go. I felt like a bad person for wanting to wait and not rush into things. When I prayed to my heavenly father, I knew He knew that I loved Him and He knew that all I want to do is make Him happy. In December, I returned to my home in Arizona and started the recommendation process. By February, I received my call and will receive my endowments in April. In June I leave for Peru. I wouldnt change the way my life is now for anything!

Why I am a Mormon

Im Mormon not only because I was born into the church but because the gospel doctrine makes sense to me. Having apostles and prophets in these latter days is just common sense. Jesus had His church and orginizations back in His day; why not have it now? Heavenly Father is the same yesterday, today, and forever. (1 Nephi 10:18) He has a plan for us and His plan is never changing. Jesus Christ suffered for our sins. He died on the cross so that we may be able to repent and have a chance to return our heavenly home. Families are also a part of His plan. He has provided a way for our families to remain together forever. Knowing that my family now and my future family can be together forever gives me joy. This happiness can continue beyond a lifetime. I am Mormon because it makes me happy.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being worthy to enter the temple and by being worthy enough to be a representative of Jesus Christ. I responded to the Prophet's announcement with excitement and joy. I go to church every Sunday and participate in evening institute classes. I choose not to do drugs or alcohol because I know how harmful it is to our bodies. I dont watch rated R movies because I'd rather not pollute my mind with useless information. I wear my CTR ring as a reminder to choose the right. Even though I am far less than perfect, I know Jesus Christ atoned for my sins so I may repent. In a few short months I will wear Jesus Christ's on a badge along with Hermana Santos.
