Hi I'm Scott

I'm a father of two. I'm in medical school. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Scott and I am happy to be a young father of two, as well as being married to the best life partner I could hope for. I'm glad to be finishing my last year of medical school, and look forward to my residency training next year. I like playing most sports, as well as piano board games. Soon I hope to take my wife to hike the West Coast Trail as a graduation present.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon, but I've grown up to be very skeptical. It has been a useful trait as I've trained in my medical career. The need to hunt for my own answers is imbedded deep within me, and I prefer to see the evidence as opposed to taking someone's word for it. I'm frequently asked how I can carry such scientific knowledge and still belief in Mormon teachings. Similar to my scientific knowledge base, I've had to hunt for spiritual answers. I have had many periods of life where I've had to question my way of life and my beliefs. Great moments of pondering and reflection would follow these times. Frequently my reflections would draw ties between my religious beliefs and my scientific self. These experiences and others, including the satisfaction and blessings I can see from living the teachings, have taught me that I am right where I need to be, and that this is the way my Heavenly Father has planned for me.

How I live my faith

Over the years I have had many responsibilities in the local churches. I'm currently teaching a marriage relationships class to groups of young married couples. One of my favourite responsibilities was to teach a religious class to a group of grade 9 students, which was held early in the morning before they went to their regular school. Another important but different aspect that I participate in is the frequent activities. There are weekly sporting events (such as basketball or football) and multiple cooking gatherings throughout the year. I enjoy meeting new faces, as well as the actual activity.
