Hi I'm Emily

I am a Social Worker, an Artist, and a lover of life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 25 years old. I was raised by wonderful parents. I have a degree in Social work and for the past 2 years have worked with teenage girls who struggle with trauma and addiction. I find my work both challenging and fulfilling. I like to take on projects of all kinds. I am currently working an a video of my grandparents' lives that I hope will be passed down from generation to generation. I am a musician. I used to sing for a dance/rock band and continue to write music and play the guitar. I am an amateur painter and photographer. I enjoy learning and developing new skills of all kinds. I love to travel. I love to meet new people and learn from them. Most of all, I value my relationships with others. I am happiest when I am surrounded by my family and true friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of my life. No matter the things we are taught, it's important that we question those things in our hearts and contemplate them. I believe that God wants us to do this. I believe that when we sincerely question and seek truth with the intent to follow that truth, doors are opened from heaven and we receive answers from God. So when I was a teenager and I began to question life and the things of God, I turned to Him. It was a very personal thing, between the Lord and I. I prayed often, on my knees, out loud, alone in my bedroom. I asked God my questions. I studied from the Bible and read the Book of Mormon. I did my best to live a wholesome and virtuous life. Most of all, I tried to tune out the world and listen to the "voice" of God, or in other words, His spirit, which we feel more than hear. Gradually, but in a very real way, the answers have come. They have come through experiences and feelings in my heart as I consistently strengthen my relationship with God. I know that God is our Father. I know that his son, Jesus Christ, died for us and is the Savior of the world. Because of His sacrifice, we can call upon Him in our moments of difficulty or heartache and he is able to strengthen us. If we but follow Him, we will be reunited with God and with our families. I believe in and am grateful for prophets of God of all ages. Whenever we read from the Holy Bible or the Book of Mormon, we are reading the words of prophets who taught the truths of God and of Jesus Christ. I am grateful that we have those records. I also believe that we have a living prophet today who teaches us the gospel of Jesus Christ. In a world of shifting values, I am grateful for this gift from God.

How I live my faith

I try to live the gospel of Jesus Christ every day of my life. I believe that whenever we are serving our fellowmen, we are doing the Lord's work. I seek to encourage and uplift others. At church, I help to organize visits and assistance to women who may be struggling with different life circumstances. I have also lead in gospel discussions and have taught Sunday School lessons. In every way that I have served in this church I have been blessed enormously. I am grateful that the Lord uses us to do his work, because in doing so, he teaches us.
