Hi I'm McKay

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, I'm McKay. I am a college student preparing to serve a mission in Nagoya, Japan! I love to ski and play guitar and hang out with friends. I am also a bass singer in the BYU Men's Chorus and enjoy sharing my testimony through music. I love drawing and building things, and I am a true-blue BYU football fan where I now attend studying mechanical engineering.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, and was raised by my awesome, crazy, funny and loving parents. They, along with my grandparents, will be my greatest examples in following what is true and right. I strive to do what is right by following the example of our savior, and I am extremely thankful for everything he and others have done for me. I hope that as I live my life I can be an example to others.

How I live my faith

I love attending church meetings on Sundays, where I bless the sacrament with the other young men in my ward. There I have the opportunity to serve others. I also enjoy attending young men activities on Wednesday nights, where we do service and grow closer together as friends in the church.

What is being a Mormon like?

McKay
Being a Mormon is awesome! Many people only talk about what Mormons can't do, but they never realize what we can do. We can enjoy so many things that would be lost if we were not members of the church. Being a Mormon is so much fun and is such a blessing. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

McKay
You can receive so many blessings from reading scripture. Scriptures contain everything from ways to receive revelation, to protecting yourself from sin, to ways to bring happiness into your life. Prophets of old were inspired by the Holy Ghost to write those words so that they may benefit us now. I have read the scriptures and found peace and strength in my life through them. One thing that has helped me in my life was from Alma in the Book of Mormon. In chapters 51-63 Moroni fortifies his cities and protects his people from the Lamanite armies by giving them armor and building walls around the cities. Stories like these can show us how to overcome sin. As we armor ourselves with the Spirit of God and build walls to avoid temptation and sin, we can make ourselves clean and protect ourselves from misery and pain. As we read scriptures, we must also pray for guidance. When we read we will find answers to questions we might have or find much needed hope in our life. There is nothing about the scriptures that shouldn't make us happy, helpful, and a better person. When I first started reading scriptures, I did not take them as seriously as I should have. I casually read them and didn't feel like I was getting much from them other than old stories. But now I love to read scriptures. As I carefully ponder them and read them with excitement, I can gain new understandings and knowledge that helps me with problems I have everyday, and I know they will do the same for you.
