Hi I'm Beccy

I'm a runner, a composer and a piano teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart. We like running and going on hikes in the mountains with our kids. I also love to cook and collect good recipes. My husband convinced me to try sushi, and now it's my favorite food. I really love learning new things, so four years ago I started taking violin lessons with my daughter. Music is one of the greatest joys of my life! I love to write it, sing it, play it and listen to it. I have 28 piano students who brighten my daily life and keep me young.

Why I am a Mormon

My Mormon parents taught me how to pray when I was small. They were patient and loving and gave me a happy home. I followed their example and believed in God. I could see that they were happy and had peace in their lives, so I naturally wanted to have that too. I learned from my own experience that their happiness, and my own, came from living the commandments of God. I learned how to repent when I made mistakes, and I made repentance a welcome part of my life, so that I could always feel clean and right before God, even though I am far from perfect. I grew up feeling the love of the Savior in my life and have never wanted to be without that wonderful gift. And of course, I want to give that gift to my own children. Again and again throughout my lifetime, I have received answers to my personal prayers--at times, not how I expected or wanted--but I can see clearly that Heavenly Father has heard me and he guides me gently toward the things I need to learn to be happy. I have learned to trust in him. I have made covenants to keep his commandments, and I can say without doubt that he holds up his end of the covenant; he always blesses me when I am faithful. He never stops loving me when I am not so faithful, and he always welcomes me back when I repent. I know He is as real as I am.

How I live my faith

I try to begin every day with a few moments of scripture study and a private prayer. When I pray, I look for the good things in my life and I thank Heavenly Father for them. I ask him to help me help people in my little circle of influence however I am able to. During the day, I look for opportunities to do so. Once in awhile this means taking dinner to neighbor family when the mom is sick. Other times, it's as simple as encouraging a friend, or cheering up a frustrated student. As a piano teacher, I often pray that God will help me be effective, that he will help me understand how to teach certain concepts, and help me know how to encourage my students. I definitely have my down days and I'm not perfect; but when I try to follow the example of Jesus Christ, I feel his love for me and I feel love for those around me.
