Hi I'm Derek

I am an (almost) lifetime member of the church in the UK. I have a wonderful wife, 3 children & 2 grand-children.

About Me

I have a wonderful wife, 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I work as a photocopier engineer and a musician. I enjoy cars & motorbikes. I'm not rich in worldly terms but no amount of money could be exchanged for the happiness I have in my life, despite its challenges, because my goals are not based around material things.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents joined the church when I was 2, so I've had the benefit of the gospel teachings in my life since childhood. But, like everyone else, there came a time when I had to find out if the church was true or whether I was just there out of habit. That time came during my youth, and I realised I knew that the church was true and I couldn't deny it.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me understand the purpose of life, why I'm here and what happens when I die. I know I have a loving Heavenly Father whose plan for me includes this very important time on earth to learn, grow and hopefully become more like Him. What I do know is that, despite my failings and weaknesses, I am a better person for trying to follow the gospel plan than I would have ever been without that knowledge. I'm not a great scriptorian, a great leader or orator. I try to live my faith through giving service in practical ways. The way the church is organised (with no paid ministry) has given me opportunities to serve that I would have never had any other way if left to my own devices. It gives me the chance to be the 'better me' more often.
