Hi I'm Connor

I like being outside and playing sports. I've been known as a Jim Carrey look-alike. I know Christ is my Savior and I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in Rogers, Arkansas. I have an older sister, two older brothers, and wonderful parents. Moving around has been a big part of my life. My dad's career landed me in places like California, Mexico City, and Tokyo. I went through all 4 years of high school at an international school in Tokyo. It was a great experience to live abroad and see other cultures. I have learned a lot from people of different backgrounds and I can see how God plays a role in everyone's life: no matter who you are. I graduated from BYU and have since moved back to my home town, where I work in finance for Walmart. My favorite activities include: playing ice hockey, kayaking, watching movies, playing yard games, and spending time with my wife.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a testimony that Jesus Christ established His church when He was on the earth, that it had the proper Priesthood authority, and that He taught perfect principles for us to attain salvation. After He and His apostles were killed, the Priesthood authority was taken from the earth and many of Christ's doctrines were changed. The true church was no longer on the earth. I know that it was restored to the earth in 1820 by God, through the prophet Joseph Smith. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the restored church that Jesus Christ established and it has the proper Priesthood authority. Jesus Christ is our Savior. I know this because I have read and prayed about the Book of Mormon and the Bible, which both testify of Jesus Christ. God has witnessed to me through the power of the Holy Ghost these books are true. Both books testify about Jesus Christ and clarify doctrines of the other. By reading the Book of Mormon and praying about it sincerely, you can come to know of its truth as well. Being a part of this faith has helped me to gain an eternal perspective. I see life in such a way that I am preparing to meet God. My priorities have changed as a result of this testimony. Having money and being successful are not the most important things to me because you can't take them with you to the next life. I strive to better my relationships with my friends and family and to love everyone. I have felt a peace and happiness come into my life that I could not find anywhere else.

How I live my faith

Every day I read my scriptures. I have found answers to many questions in all of these books about why I'm here, where I came from, and where I'm going. They have also taught me how to live my life in a more fulfilling way and how to treat the people around me. Growing up in Arkansas, there were not many members of my same faith at school. It was difficult to stand out sometimes but it was also a blessing. I believe I was put where I was to introduce many people to the gospel. The gospel is what gets me through my challenges and makes me happy. My ultimate goal is to become more like my Savior, Jesus Christ. I love reading the Book of Mormon and the New Testament because they testify of Jesus Christ. The stories in both inspire me to push through the difficult times in my life. I have never been unsatisfied following Jesus Christ.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

The law of health we have at our church is called the Word of Wisdom. It was given by God to Joseph Smith almost two hundred years ago. It informs us to stay away from certain substances that are potentially harmful to our body such as tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, and illegal drugs. It also warns us of the health risks in eating unhealthy foods (such as too much meat and not enough vegetables). I love playing sports and exercising and I believe the Word of Wisdom and all of its teachings. I didn't used to be physically active and I didn't eat the right foods. I noticed I was feeling tired and lethargic a lot, so I decided to change my habits. In high school I played football and tennis, and now I go to the gym a few times a week to stay healthy. I realized, after I started exercising, how much better I felt towards life. I also started eating more balanced meals, with more vegetables and less of the more fattening foods. I had more energy and I was happier. The Word of Wisdom has helped me many times when I have been pressured by friends to try things like alcohol. I know that these substances can lead to tragic events. I've personally seen the harmful effects of these substances and I have been forever grateful that I was taught at a young age not to partake of these. My life has been so much better and I am happier, healthier, and friendlier as a result. Show more Show less
