Hi I'm Suzy

Big family, 8 kids. I graduated from the University and spent 2 years in Chile. I got married and had 8 kids. I am a mormon.

About Me

I love music, dance and drama. I love teaching and public speaking. I've taught many young people in my life and it has been a joy. In the past, I identified with Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music and many times pretended I was like her. I taught my own kids to sing, dance, speak and act. I also believed in working hard until you finished the job. My own children have picked up that quality and are finishers. They have married great people and have expanded out family. Life can be a circus when we all get together, but we've found that we tend to learn patience and forgiveness through our challenges. We also learn that being together is very reinforcing because we all appreciate the gifts and talents of each individual.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Mormon home so I had to figure out if the Church was really the Church of Jesus Christ restored in the latter days. When I was 19 I went to New York to study music for the summer. I was far away from my family and had to make some discoveries of my own. I decided to read the Book of Mormon because if it was true and it really came from God, then Joseph Smith had to have received it from God like Moses received the 10 Commandments from God. The book says that if you read with a sincere heart and with real intent, the truth of it will be made known to you by the Spirit of the Holy Ghost. I read it and prayed sincerely for I just had to know. As I read, my mind became enlightened and my understanding quickened to grasp. My heart was filled to overflowing with the Spirit of the Lord. The warmth and love were so overwhelming, I wept. I was filled with gratitude for there was a God who knew me personally. He loved me enough to take the time to pay attention to me. He revealed to me the truth. I was so overjoyed to know my purpose and direction in life. He has continued to guide me. I love HIM and I know HE LIVES! HE IS REAL!

How I live my faith

I have ministered to the children by directing and guiding them. I worked to help their teachers learn how to teach and assist the children in developing their talents. I taught all of the children how to speak to the church congregation. I taught them to use their skills of enunciation, projection, eye contact, facial expression and gestures. As they spoke from the pulpit, the children were amazing and taught the whole congregation how to present their best when working for the Lord. I enjoyed teaching teenage girls how to build fires, camp in the woods and cook over a fire. They learned how to find their directions in the woods without a compass. The skills and spiritual strength we all gained by working together in the forrest was a miracle to me. Once a month or more I check on about three families in the congregation. I visit with the woman of the home to see how the family is doing. I make sure all is well and if it is not, I alert other women in the church and we assist the family until their situation improves. For the women in our church, the above mentioned program where we keep in contact with each other is called Visiting Teaching. The men have the same kind of program, but they are called Home Teachers. They work with the Fathers and the whole family. Women work with just the mothers or wives or single women. These progams help all of us feel loved and not alone in this world. It is a great way to keep in contact with each other in the busy world in which we live.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Suzy
We came from our Heavenly Home to this earth to receive a physical body and to make decisions by choosing between good or evil. When we make a choice, we gain experience that helps us know if we are progressing toward our Heavenly Father and his plan for us. Our purpose here is to be in a family and to form a family. As we learn about Jesus Christ and are willing to follow his teachings and commandments, we will develop relationships that have the possibility of becoming eternal. Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ, have a rich store of knowledge for us to understand so that we will know that our individual lives have divine purpose. As we pray and try our best to follow his Son, we will come to know our unique personal plan that was given to us from our Heavenly Father before our birth while we were yet in His presence.
