Hi I'm Brooke

I'm a hiker, beginning knitter, art-appreciator, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love all things beautiful! Whether it's nature or a painting, I always try to appreciate the creations of Heavenly Father and his children. I think that every child of God is uniquely beautiful and that everyone is special and has something worthwhile to contribute. I am currently studying liberal arts in the hopes of eventually working for a city arts council or museum advocating the arts in communities and schools. I like to sew, knit, hike, eat and read in my spare time and I also love contemporary dance and ballet.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because everything the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches brings peace to my soul. It is a gospel of hope and faith and goodwill, and I know that by following God's commandments I will be happy. The church teaches me my purpose in life is to become the best person I can be and then rely on the Savior's atonement to be able to return to my Heavenly Father again. I know this is true! Plain and simple, this gospel makes me happy. I know when I am living up to its standards and trying to be like Jesus Christ I feel better than when I don't. My testimony and my faith are so precious to me!

How I live my faith

I am secretary in the ward presidency of our women's church group, the Relief Society. I love this calling because I get to interact with my sisters on a regular basis! The gospel of Jesus Christ is so uplifting for women and I'm so grateful for the purpose and joy it brings me. I visit a couple girls in my ward every month to share a gospel message and see if I can serve them in any way. I also organize and print a program of our Sunday Sacrament meeting. I am currently preparing to serve a full time mission! I leave in May for Boston, MA and I can not wait to serve our Savior. I chose to serve a mission because I know that the gospel brings peace and happiness and I want to share those blessings with as many people as I can!

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are strong and faithful. Neither man or women is better in eyes of the church or of our Heavenly Father, but they each have different responsibilities. Man and woman are both essential in the plan of our Heavenly Father. One aspect of the gospel that I love is how uplifting it is for women! It teaches that women have a divine purpose in the eyes of God. We are born with an innate ability to love and lift others up. A special way we can do this is through the role of motherhood - a glorious calling. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, and one of the most powerful evidences of this is the account of the resurrected Savior visiting ancient America. In John 10:16, Jesus Christ told his disciples in Jerusalem that He had "other sheep ... which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice". The ancient inhabitants of America were some of these sheep. During His visit, Jesus Christ taught His gospel and organized His Church exactly as He had in the Old World. My favorite part of the account of His ministry is found in 3 Nephi 17. After teaching the higher law, Jesus notices that the Nephites are overwhelmed with all of the things they were just taught. He instructs them to go home and think about the things He had said until He returned the next day, but the people "were in tears, and did look steadfastly upon him as if they would ask him to tarry a little longer with them" (3 Nephi 17:5). Christ is then so full of compassion towards them that He blesses the entire multitude one by one and then specifically blesses all of the children. I love that these people have so much love for their Savior from the very beginning! This is an incredible example of how much Jesus Christ loves each and every one of us. I am so grateful for the account of the Savior's ministry in the Book of Mormon to teach me more about my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
