Hi I'm Toby Parker

I love to ski and golf, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the great city of Ogden, Utah and lived there until I was 19 years old. I am the youngest of five children love them very, very much. I grew close to my family when my parents divorced when I was 10. Although it was a challenging experience, I eventually grew very close to each member in a unique way, including my wonderful parents. I also was led to grow and love God and my savior Jesus Christ. I now am the happy uncle to 10 nieces and nephews and love spending time with each of them as well as their parents. I was blessed to be sent to what I consider the best mission in the world, the Spain Barcelona Mission, for two years. I was able to see many wonderful miracles while serving the Lord and preaching the gospel and attribute so much in my life to it. I am currently finishing up my accounting degree at Utah Valley University. I am an extremely happy person that has been truly blessed in life!

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised in the church, I did not obtain a testimony of the gospel until later in life. Until I was 17, attending church and living the commandments seemed more cultural than anything. Growing up in Utah can have that effect at times. Even while going through difficult experiences throughout childhood I regretfully still did not find myself retreating to God with a desire to draw closer to Him. It wasn't until I was in my senior year of high school that I began to notice the blessing the gospel can be in my life. I decided one day to attend a missionary prep class with my friends on an early Sunday morning. While there, I felt a warm feeling inside which was exactly what had been lacking in my life. I knew at that moment that my loving father in heaven wanted me to live in harmony with the gospel as well as preach his word to others by going on a mission. I knew that I could not turn my back on Him. It made so much sense and to this day one of the principal reasons why I strive to live the gospel and commandments is because I know my life is better when I do. I know that by keeping the commandments of God I receive numerous blessings. I never want to pass these up or be unworthy to receive them. While on my mission in Spain, I was also able to receive a strong testimony through prayer that this church is true, that the Book of Mormon is true, that Joseph Smith was an absolute true prophet of God. I am a Mormon because I know that it blesses me and makes my life better in so many ways. It makes me want to be a better person. It gives me strength and knowledge of where we came from and where we are going after this life here on Earth. I know without a doubt in my mind that God is real and that He lives. This is His church and Thomas S Monson is a true prophet called by Him to carry on in the work. Finding out what the Atonement is and what my Savior Jesus Christ has done for me has changed my life forever, and I love Him more than anything on this earth.

How I live my faith

I love learning from the examples of others and trying to improve daily at keeping the commandments and putting myself in line with what the Lord would want me to do. I truly believe that life is like attempting to go up on an escalator, except that the steps are moving downward and the only way to reach the top is to constantly be moving and heading towards the top. If no attempt is made to do so, the escalator will take you down to the bottom. To me this is in perfect correlation with living the gospel. I strive daily to try and strengthen my friendship and relationship with my father in heaven through prayer so that I know what He would want me to do or not do while I attempt to climb upward. Prayer has helped me grow so much closer to Him and has guided me through many obstacles and challenges in life. I look forward to many, many more experiences in life where I am able to learn more about the gospel and how to constantly improve living it from the example of others.
