Hi I'm Jerry

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a Christian, a husband, a dad, a grandpa. I teach for a living. I donate time to three non-profit organizations. I participate in most sports and vocal music in choirs and smaller ensembles. Our family lives on an acre and a quarter and have enjoyed pets like goats, geese, ducks, chickens, a dog, etc. I often hurry home from work to spend any spare time with my number one activity - time with our family. I have a wonderful and talented family - wife and children that bring me much happiness. I enjoy searching for family members that I never met by doing family history.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother and I joined the church when I was just ten years old. My Catholic upbringing gave me a good foundation in appreciating our Savior and recognizing the importance of reverence in his house. When missionaries taught my mother and me, it was a wonderful experience. I was taught about our Heavenly Father and Jesus and the "Plan of Happiness" and I had the kind of warm feeling that lets me know that "this is right." "This is true." It was as if I had been taught this somewhere before. I have a Heavenly Father that made my spirit. I have earthly parents that made a body for my spirit to live in. He has a plan for my happiness that includes "families can be forever." My wife and I are married for "time and all eternity" and not " 'til death do us part." Our children can be with us eternally. I have learned to listen to the Holy Ghost. I have learned that with the "still small voice" our Heavenly Father will let us know that these principles are true. He wants us to be happy, he knows us by name, and will hear and answer our every prayer.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by the thousands of little decisions I make every day. I do not wake up and decide if I will live the teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ today. I made that decision long ago. It has brought be peace, comfort, and joy. It is no sacrifice to do things that are right, spend hours in volunteer service, and avoiding the vices that many of my peers consider "fun." I have learned the difference between joy and fun. It would take too long to describe the different volunteer tasks I have done over the last 40 years, but I can say that I have worked with all ages from the nursery to the elderly, in various assignments from Sunday school teaching to directing choir to activities in scouts and athletics. You grow to love those you serve. I have a better idea of the love Jesus has for all of us as I try to serve my "brothers and sisters" around me.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Jerry
As a convert to the Church, I grew up with devout Catholic family members that taught me to love the Bible, special verses, stories of Jesus and the prophets, and scriptures and stories set to music. The special feeling I had as a child for the Bible I recognized as I found other scriptures that testify of Jesus Christ. I have come to love and enjoy the Book of Mormon in the same way that my family taught me to love the Bible. Both testify of Christ. Both will have the Holy Ghost testify that the testimonies of Christ are true. I collected my favorite 1,400 scripture verses and shared them with everyone at a web site I named "gospelverseaday.com." Show more Show less
