Hi I'm Shelly Orr

I'm a BYU Cougar. I was born and raised in Kansas. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I made the greatest decision of my life and married my best friend in 2013 and have loved being a wife more than I ever thought possible. Why didn’t anyone ever tell me how awesome marriage is?! I work in marketing and creative design and earned my degree in Communications from Brigham Young University back in 2012. Though my husband is a Boise State fan, I will forever be a Cougar through and through. I am a loyal Oklahoma City Thunder fan and will cheer them on regardless of who they’re up against or what their rank is. I love playing sports, especially the ones I’m decent at - football, softball and soccer - though I’m always up for trying just about anything. I love surprises, going on adventures and being spontaneous, but I’m a pretty outstanding guesser and oftentimes spoil my husband’s surprises without meaning to. My friends and family mean the world to me, and I picture all my favorite days being spent with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it is the only way of living that has made me truly happy. The standards, truths, and doctrine taught in my religion have brought me health, peace, and comfort. I have found treasures while searching the scriptures; I have found insights while listening to the words of the living prophets; I have found love for total strangers as I've taught them alongside the full-time missionaries; I have found joy as I've made sacred covenants with the Lord and bound myself to my husband for time and all eternity. I am Mormon because the Spirit has testified to me that the words I hear and read and the covenants I make are true and right. It might not always be the easiest road to take, but it is definitely the best. Living the Gospel of Jesus Christ has never been an effortless endeavor, and it never will be. But the rewards in the end are worth every sacrifice and every effort. God isn't asking for perfection - He is asking for our best and He will make up the rest. But don't just take my word on all of this - go search for yourself. Find the truth and the beautiful and inexplicable happiness that comes from it. You'll never regret it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying, every day, to be the kind of person I read about in the scriptures and hear about over the pulpit. I'm not perfect by any means, but I do my best to live the standards I know to be true and follow the moral compass my family instilled in me. I enjoy going out with the missionaries and teaching lessons with them, and I love attending our temples and feeling of the beautiful and peaceful Spirit there. I think along with doing good things like going to church, supporting the missionaries, and attending the temple, it's also important to always incorporate love, service, and selflessness into your everyday life. One of my favorite places to live was Oklahoma City because the people there love religion and know God. I had the best conversations with friends there about their beliefs and mine and was able to share my testimony time and again with people I came to love deeply. I also had the opportunity to serve time and again in the community (tornado cleanup) and in my ward by instructing the youth and giving compassionate service to the women I attended with and their families. I think the best way to teach others what you believe, why you are the way you are, and what truths you cherish is by living them every single day. It's important to preach with our lips from time to time - absolutely. But it's even more important to practice those things we preach, especially when we think no one is looking.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Shelly Orr
Everything around me testifies that there is a God. From the beauties of nature to the giggles of little children, I know that none of it is by chance. I know that there is a God because He blesses me with the innermost desires of my heart - He is in the details. I know that there is a God because I feel His love and because I have come to know Him through scripture study and prayer. Show more Show less
