Hi I'm Justin

I grew up in Utah. I'm studying to be a dentist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a husband, father of 2, son, brother and uncle. I've been attending college for the last 8 years, working towards becoming a dentist. We're almost to the end....YEAH!!! During my time in college I've had many opportunities to grow. Spending long hours in the library, spending some free time catching a ball game here and there, and trying to juggle the responsibilities of raising a family while being a student. Interspersed between family and school I've had the opportunity to volunteer and help mentor young men who have not made the best choices in their lives. All of these things have helped me grow and learn.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I know its teachings to be true. I was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I looked up to my parents and respected them. It never really occured to me to question whether or not this church was true. I figured 'Hey, if my mom and dad believe it to be true then I guess it is'. I always enjoyed going to church each week (probably because I had most of my friends there). When the time came for me to turn in my mission papers (in the church 19 year old young men and 21 year old young women can decide if they would like to go on a mission to share the teachings of our church), I did so because again, it never had really occurred to me that possibly this wasn't God's true church on the earth. It wasn't until I found myself in our church's missionary training center, away from friends and family that it hit me of what I was embarking on. I contemplated what I was doing. Voluntarily, I had left my friends, family, schooling behind and decided to dedicate the next 2 years of my life to preaching a message that I didn't even know if it was true! On top of that, I would be serving my 2 year mission in Latvia, where I would be expected to learn the language so I could teach my church's beliefs. I decided that I needed to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was God's true church. I needed to know for myself if Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. If he was, then the Book of Mormon is true and Christ's full Gospel was found in this church. I prayed fervently to God to know the truth. I'd been taught 'if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally...and it shall be given him' (James 1:5). I knew God would answer my prayer. One night upon finishing my prayers I received my answer. A peace came over me and I knew God was speaking to me. I had gained my own testimony. I knew that the church was true. I know the same answer can come to anyone who desires to know the truth.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being true to the things that I know to be correct. In Matthew 22:38 Christ taught 'Thou shalt love the Lord they God with all the heart, and with all they soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first great commandment. And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself'. I truly believe that if you love the Lord then your actions will reflect that. I serve others around me through volunteer work. I do not smoke, do not drink alcohol, I don't take the name of the Lord in vain, I love my wife and children, I strive to keep the 10 commandments, and to be honest with myself and my fellow man. I pray to God when I rise in the morning, over meals, at the close of the day, and any other time I need help and direction. I pay what we call tithing, which is 10% of my increase (income) to the church, just as we read Abraham did in times of old in the Bible. This helps others who are less fortunate. I study the scriptures, attend church every Sunday, and strive to follow Christ's example. Christ taught 'if ye love me, keep my commandments'.
