Hi I'm Matt Knight

I'm a singer, a band geek, a return missionary, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 22-year old return missionary, and I'm number 4 of 6 kids -- one older brother, two older sisters, and a younger brother and sister. I LOVE music -- I play trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and piano, and I sing 1st tenor. I took band for seven years, I was in marching band for three years, I sang in my high school choir for 2 years, and I'm in my second semester of Institute Choir! It's awesome! I like to be well-informed, though I don't feel that contention and debate resolve much. I love my country and our Constitution, and I feel that the Founding Fathers were inspired men! (Doc. & Cov. 101:76-80) I think I'm a pretty average guy -- I try hard to contribute to society, I enjoy pizza and steak and most ethnic foods, I love spending time with my family and friends. At least, I hope that's the societal average...

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church and though I never questioned it, I never really had a strong belief in the restored gospel. When I was 15, I took the challenge of President Gordon B. Hinckley to read the Book of Mormon by the end of that year, hoping that in doing so I would receive an answer to my prayers concerning the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon (and, by extension, the reality of this being Christ's Church). An answer didn't come. Disappointed, I continued praying, half-heartedly, for the next eight months, feeling that if I didn't gain a testimony, I would let my parents down. Finally, as I read my Seminary Summer Reading assignment (to finish the Doctrine and Covenants before school started), the Spirit witnessed to me the reality of Joseph Smith's calling as a modern prophet. This was the foundation upon which my testimony of the Book of Mormon was built for several years. While serving as a full-time missionary in the California Ventura Mission, I asked for a reaffirmation of the truthfulness of the restored gospel several times, and especially for a testimony, specifically, of the Book of Mormon itself. It wasn't until the end of my mission that I realized that those prayers had been answered and a strong personal testimony of the Book of Mormon had grown for me as the result of faithful study and application of the principles and doctrines taught in that wonderful second witness of Jesus Christ. I now understand and appreciate the importance of the Book of Mormon -- if it is true, then Joseph Smith was truly a prophet and the instrument by which Christ restored His church; it also means that we have living prophets today who guide and direct us according to God's will, and who we can trust to lead us in the right path, even (or especially) in matters of societal controversy.

How I live my faith

I just got back from a two year mission in Southern California and I love to serve people, which I strive to do every day! Basically, I try to follow the example of living set by our Savior, Jesus Christ!
