Hi I'm Claire

I grew up in Oregon. I love the outdoors, especially hiking. Now I am a mom and a wife in Texas. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I worked with troubled youth through college at different indoor and outdoor treatment centers. I enjoy helping people work through their problems/fears - especially through the use of ropes courses and Experiential Education. Right now I am focusing on raising my own children. Most days it is all I can do to keep my family fed, groomed and the house slightly picked up and cleaned. I find joy in spending time with my kids reading, at the park and doing craft projects. Another thing I try to focus on weekly is helping those around me who are sick or in need of help that I can give them either by sharing a meal or helping watch their kids. I realize that I have forgotten to spend time on myself doing what I love. One of my goals is to find something just for me that I like to do and spend a little time doing it each week. I know I'll be a better wife and mother for it!

Why I am a Mormon

I have always had a strong connection to God. I have prayed and felt that he knows me and is concerned about me. I feel that he has been there for me everytime that I have reached out for his help. I also know that the Book of Mormon is true by the same way. I feel the spirit when I read the Bible just as I do when I read the Book of Mormon. I know God loves all his children in all countries of the Earth and that he speaks to his children through Prophets. I know that Joseph Smith saw God and that he was chosen to bring back truths that were lost after Christ and all his Apostles were killed. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the church that God has set up on earth for his children to hear his words. I know he speaks to us today through living prophets, just as he did in ancient times. I know the Holy Ghost is God's gift to men to help us recognize the truth for ourselves. I have felt the warm, happy glow many times as I have attended church, said my prayers, read the scriptures, listened to the Prophets and followed their counsel. All these things are strong and undenialble answers to me that the God lives, loves me and is directing my life.

How I live my faith

I work with the young girls in our ward. They are 10,11 and 12. I teach them each Sunday. This year we are reading the New Testament. Last week I taught them about Saul's conversion. We discussed what things can keep us from following God and how we can be mislead by others. I challenged them to think about the things in their life that are not in allignment with the teachings of God, and to spend this week trying to overcome them with God's help. Conversion is a life long process. Paul's conversion was rather quick, but most of us make small steps each day towards being better disciples of Christ.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Mormons believe the Bible is the word of God. It is God's dealings with his people through the teachings of his Holy Prophets. Show more Show less
