Hi I'm Nick

I am a sports fanatic and high school football coach. I am fluent in Spanish. I love San Diego and fish tacos. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of 5 kids from a strong LDS home in the San Diego, CA area. I absolutely love sports, especially San Diego and BYU teams. Any sport. I played football, basketball and baseball in high school. I also play golf, ultimate frisbee, soccer and I love to swim and snow ski. I am currently a high school football coach, living in the Olympia, WA area. I have an Associate of Science Degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho and am about to graduate with a Bachelor's in Public Health Science. I have an interest in pursuing a career in forensics or for a state health department.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a strong LDS home. All my family members are LDS but we are blessed to live in a place where we can spread the gospel to many of our neighbors and friends who do not have the restored gospel. For me, having a living prophet today just makes sense. Why would God leave us hanging after calling prophets in ancient times? I know that Joseph Smith really was a true prophet of God who was called to restore Christ's church back here, exactly the way it was when Christ was walking on this Earth. I know that we really do have a living prophet today, Thomas S. Monson. He is a man called of God to be His mouthpiece to His children. I know this because I know the Book of Mormon is true, and since it is true, Joseph Smith really did translate it through the power of God. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's true church which has the proper authority from God, the priesthood, in order to perform ordinances such as baptism. I am truly grateful that this gospel allows me to be with my wife and future children and the rest of my family for eternity.

How I live my faith

Before my mission, I always tried to be an example. Just about all of my teammates in high school were not members of the church. This gave me many opportunities to talk to them about my beliefs. I am grateful for the many times they would ask me questions or comment about why I do or don't do certain things. Even though I was surrounded by many worldly things, I made a point to stand strong and to "be an example of the believers (1 Tim 4:12)." I served a two-year mission in Jacksonville, FL speaking Spanish from 2011-2013. Today I am married and sealed in the temple to my beautiful wife. We strive to keep our covenants and prepare to have an eternal family. I also strive to be an example in the community as I work closely with high school students.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Temples are used to make more sacred covenants with God after baptism. Also inside, we do all the work for the people who did not have a chance to learn and accept it in this life that have already died. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is another book of scripture similar to the Bible. It is another testimony that Jesus is the Christ. It was written by people who lived in the ancient Americas. After Christ's resurrection, he visited these people in the Americas and taught them his gospel. Ancient American prophets wrote of Christ. He let those people feel the wounds in his hands and feet as he did his discilpes in Israel. It is the keystone to our religion. If this book is true (which it is), then Joseph Smith really was a prophet called of God, Jesus really is the Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's true church on the Earth with a living prophet. Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

The "law of health" is known as the Word of Wisdom. This was revelation given to Joseph Smith. The Lord has revealed through a prophet that we should not partake of these things. Our bodies are temples and gifts from God, it would show ingratitude towards Him if we were to defile or harm our body in any way. He asks us to avoid these things because they are addictive, which enslave us to those cravings and rob us of our agency. Sometimes the Lord might give us a commandment we don't understand. But if we know the Book of Mormon is true, then we know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. And if he is a true prophet, God really did give these revelations to him for our well being. It all comes from the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less
