Hi I'm Fred

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I represent the second generation of US Marine Corps officers out of three generations. My grandfather was a "draft dodger" from Arch Duke Ferdinand's press gangs before WW l. My father was the youngest fighter squadron commander in the South Pacific in WW ll. He was the oldest squadron commander in Korea and the first to land in Korea when General Douglas MacArthur called for the Marines to fight against the Communist Insurgents from China as they crossed the 39th Parallel. I served in Vietnam as a forward observer and artillery battery commander in the First Marine Division. I came to realize how blessed I was when I survived when so many others around me. My life was spared by the grace of my Heavenly Father. I promised the Lord that if I survived the war then I would change my life to be in the service of my fellow man. I never asked to be spared only to be able to do my job and protect my fellow Marines. Five times, I was spared when everyone around me was either killed or severely wounded. I know I was blessed and so when I returned home from the war, I searched for the truth and found my peace in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I have worked with or for three US Presidents including Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush in senior level positions. I traveled the world representing the United States as a US Government official. Never did I forget that the example I set to those around me would be my mission as a church member. In my lifetime I have met the leaders of the world in over sixty countries representing the United States. Never did I meet anyone who influenced me more than did the Prophets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have been humbled in their presence. These are truly men of God. They set the example by their service to our fellow man. I pray each day that I will never let down and fail to do what is right. I seek to set by example that one can have true happiness in doing good for others. I am now the Mayor of a small Texas town. I love doing what I do to make our town a place of inclusivity. I seek to make all who come here feel welcome. I try to give credit to all those who give so freely of their time, talents and good fortune. It is my fervent wish that I am able to lengthen my stride and be a support to those who feel they can go no further.

How I live my faith

I pray many times a day. Not always on my knees, but always within the peace that surrounds me. Only through prayer have I been able to overcome the adversary. He and his followers do not want us to be able to return to our Heavenly Father, but we must be strong and resolute. I hope whoever might read my writings might feel the presence of the Holy Ghost in your life and glean strength from his presence. It is my strongest wish that I will endure to the end. May you be blessed in all you do and may you seek out your Father in Heaven.
