Hi I'm Mike

I grew up in Columbus Ohio. I Recently graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Chinese. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a single guy that just graduated college and is trying to find a job just like everyone else. I am currently in the process of apply to the Navy's Officer's Candidate School, though in the mean time I work at my local zoo. I am an avid scuba diver (Cozumel is my favorite diving destination) as well as a table top gamer and painter. Through out my college career I had the importunity to go to mainland China (Qingdao City, which has become my second home town at this point) three different times for language study. I love the Chinese Culture, language and of course food (羊肉串儿就是我的最喜欢的。) I love hard rock (Bolbaflex, Seather, Metallica) though I listen to just about everything.

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to be a Mormon because the life style and the beliefs bring me happiness that I have not been able to find anywhere else. Through out my life, I have chosen at different points not to live by the teaching of my church. As hard as I tried during those times, no amount of alcohol, partying, girls etc. could give me the same kind of enduring happiness as I had when i was living my religion. I choose to be Mormon because the teaching and principles of this church help and guild me to be a better person. We believe that all women and men are capable of change to one degree or another. That knowledge gives me the strength and drive to make the changes in my life so I can be a better friend, and better co-worker and a better person. I choose to be Mormon because I got down on my knees and prayed. God our Heavenly Father has told us if we want answers we can come to him in faith and receive answers (see James chap 1 ver 5 in the bible or Moroni chap 10 vers 3-7 in the Book of Mormon). So when I was 19 I did, and I got my answer. And that's why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith simple by practicing what I believe. I try to be friendly to those around (though being from a east coast family my natural sarcasm sometimes gets in the way). I try to balance my life between my church calling (I help people find employment, some what Ironic for a person who is not gainfully employed himself) and work a friends. Because most of my friends are not Mormons I also have had to find a balance between living in the world but not of it. I will still go out to a Bar or club with friends, but I'll just have tonic water. My friends joke that they never have to worry about getting a taxis or having a DD, I just call it the Mormon friend advantage. I try to be very open about my faith, but not pushy. I'm always open to answering questions, and laugh at how we must appear to people not of our faith ("what'a mean you don't drink coffee?"). I do have my flaws, I'm Mormon not perfect after all ;-)
