Hi I'm Barbara

I'm a Mormon. I am a mom and an Oma (grandmother in Dutch) and grew up in Phoenix Arizona.

About Me

I am a mom and an Oma. That's Grandma in Dutch. My grandparents on my mom's side were immigrants from Holland and Norway. My dad's ancestors were from Germany, Scotland and Ireland. I enjoy family history and have done extensive research on my ancestors. I'm in my early 60's and just received 2 bachelor degrees in public agency administration and social and community service. My recent passion is creative writing, mainly poetry and short stories. I just love to learn! Some of my hobbies include playing the piano, writing music, reading, traveling and Hawaii is my favorite place to visit. I like to keep busy. Another favorite of mine is talking with people and listening to their stories.

Why I am a Mormon

Raising a son as a single parent is not easy but with the church in our lives we were able to have the strength through faith to endure many trials and challenges. I have seen so many miracles in my life and in the lives of my family and friends. I know my Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ love me and are there to help me. I am certainly not a perfect person, but with their help and the encouragement I receive through answers to my prayers, I know I can improve my life. Praying gives me strength, knowing I can community with my Heavenly Father whenever I want. It brings me a peace I can find in no other place. I'm grateful for the Temple and the blessings I have received from attending. I'm grateful for the Temple and how it brings families together - past and present. I'm grateful to be a Mormon and happy with my life, faith and testimony. My faith in the gospel has helped me through many trials, challenges, heartaches, joys and celebrations. I love my family and know we can be together forever.

How I live my faith

I have worked with the youth in our church for over 20 years as a young women's leader and as a seminary teacher of high school age students. They keep me young and they are always such good examples by the way they live their lives. By being a member of the church I have learned how to develop my talents which have included teaching, leadership roles, and playing the organ. Music is a big part of my life and I have been able to develop my musical talent in playing the piano and singing. As a director of play performances, I have learned much about stage productions. I would never have been able to accomplish any of these without the Faith that I have developed by being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Church gives so many opportunities to grow and I am so thankful for that!
