Hi I'm Sarah

I'm a hopeless romantic. I have always seen life through rose colored glasses. I'm a wife, a mother, and a writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from the Northwest at heart; I love grey sky's, rain, hiking, and recycling. My very first year of college I met the best friend of my life, and married him three years later. He was also my first kiss. We are living on the East Coast attending medical school, and raising our one little son. I love hugging people, hearing stories and telling stories. Mostly I love reading stories and writing stories while eating chocolate chip cookies.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the gospel and raised in it. When I was a senior in high school, a few friends really made me think, "Why do I insist on living the way I do?" It was the first time I had challenged myself to know the truth of what I had been taught all my life. Being a writer I love to spend hours imagining things. I imagined my life without the gospel; who I would be, what I would be doing. What I came to realize was that if I wanted pure joy, pure happiness, and pure love to exist in my life- than there was no other way to do it than to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When I am living as true as I can to the precepts taught in this gospel, I feel true joy. Even on my worst days, I can feel happiness protecting me, like an extra layer of skin underneath my real flesh. When I follow the teachings of Christ I know I am never without love. Who would want to live a life devoid of love, and devoid of happiness? That wouldn't be living at all.

How I live my faith

Right now I teach a Sunday School class of eight little 5 year old children. It is a hard task for me because I struggle with patience. However, after teaching these children for a little over two months, I have come to love even the most unruly of them. What is amazing about children is how simple, logical, and uncomplicated the world is to them. By teaching them lessons about the gospel every week, I have started to realize that life can be very chaotic, so the Lord has given us the simplest way He can to get through it. That is how I live my faith-in the simplest most logical ways. I don't drink because it keeps me healthy. I dress modestly because it shows respect to myself, and to my husband. I say my prayers because it helps me through each daily challenge. I read the scriptures because the words in them gives me courage and strength. A small man can move a mountain if he has the right equipment; the gospel is my easy to use equipment to tunnel through the mountain of life.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

I think of relationships like a wagon wheel. A couple are two spokes in that wagon wheel, and they are connected to one another. But without something to anchor the other end of those connected spokes- they kind of flop around and don't do any good to anyone. Today, people find a lot of things to anchor their spokes too, but if you don't find the right true substance to anchor too, then the wheel breaks down, and you not only loose your anchor, but you loose the person you were connected too. When both people in a relationship have a true strong faith in Christ, they can weather anything. Having faith in Christ allows a couple to be focused on the right things in life so they don't get distracted and take wrong turns. Having faith in Christ, and trusting in him, also allows a person to forget about many of the worries of life, giving them more time and energy to concentrate on those important people and relationships.
