Hi I'm Doug Millett

I am a residential real estate appraiser. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have enjoyed my 20+ year career as a residential real estate appraiser even though there have plenty of bumps in the road due to the economic challenges we have faced in this nation. Life would be too easy if there were not some bumps to remind us the real reason we are here on earth. I am a father of three wonderful sons ages 13 to 23, and have a super wife that sometimes believes she has four boys. I enjoy watching our sons grow up and see that they learning to follow the example of our Savior Jesus Christ which brings me much joy and happiness. To keep in shape I play racquetball two or three times a week and hope to play as long as my body allows it. It is a sport that hitting something does not create pain upon others unless you miss what you are aiming for.

Why I am a Mormon

I have studied the scriptures in the Bible and Book of Mormon to find for myself what God would have me do during my life time upon this earth. This has developed my faith and a foundation in understanding what God has given us as a guide. However, the scriptures are very explicit in sharing with us that if we pray, asking with faith, that He will direct our path and give us wisdom and knowledge. (James 1:5) Through prayer I have received my answer to know that the fullness of the Christ's Gospel has been restored back on this earth with His power and authority to act in His name. That answer has been a driving force to continue learning and asking for His guidance. I have found that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has Christ at the cornerstone with continued guidance through revelation to a prophet that God has chosen in our day. It is a good feeling to know that God loves us just as much as in the days of Abraham and Moses, in calling a Prophet today. (Amos 3:7). I have learned throughout my life how important Jesus Christ is for me to believe in Him, knowing that He is my Savior and Redeemer, and without Him I would be lost forever. Believing in Christ is not all He wants us to do. He states in John 14:15 that if we love Him, that we should keep His commandments. That is what I am striving to do each day, and when I fail, I know that Christ is there to help me to repent and to cleanse my soul when I have done all He asks me to do to receive His forgiveness. His grace and tender mercies are great and I am grateful to Him for what He has done for me. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I believe that going to Church and just sitting there for worship service is good; however, I believe that God wants us to be willing to accept callings to serve in different capacities to build not just our own faith, but the faith of others. I have been blessed to serve in this Church as a teacher and in leadership positions. The time I have spent serving others I have been blessed by the Lord ten fold. Watching children learn songs to help them to be more like Jesus brings a warth inside me knowing that our Heavenly Father is pleased. I often get the opportunity to visit families at their homes to assist them and their family, to share a message of love, and to leave a blessing upon all those within that home. I believe as the scriptures say that when we serve others, we are thus serving God. (Mosiah 2:17 - Book of Mormon) I love the commercials that show someone doing something nice for someone else, and another person sees that act of kindness and takes the opportunity to do unto others. That is what I desire to do every day for those around me in taking the time to show kindness in different ways. That is what I believe that the Savior wants us to do. These acts of kindness may be small, but they may be what will assist someone to make through that day. That is what I want to strive to be and do.
