Hi I'm Devin

I`m from a very small town in Arizona, I served as a missionary in Brazil for two years, I love music, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Devin Flake, I am the oldest of 5 kids, and I am in my first semester of studies at Brigham Young University. I love music and I love to sing. I come from a very musical family and they, especially my awesome, extremely talented mother, have influenced me my whole life. I participated in choirs all through junior high and high school, and I made the Arizona all-state choir all 4 years of my high school years. I also have a hobby of collecting old vinyl records, and have a turn table in my room, which gets a lot of use. Last November I returned from serving a 2 year mission in Brazil, and it was one of the greatest blessings of my life. I learned to love the wonderful people there, and love and serve the Lord. I love my savior Jesus Christ, and I love my family and my faith.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, and I always enjoyed going and feeling the great spirit that is there, but I always kind of had my own, private doubts. I knew that it was a good thing, but I wasn't totally sure if it was all true, and I knew that there was only one way to know for me to know for myself. At the beginning of my mission, I started praying and fasting a ton, asking God to help me feel for myself that all of this, the church, the Book of Mormon, and everything that I had ever been taught really was true. For a while I felt like I hadn't received an answer yet, but then one day we were practice-teaching one of the other missionaries about Joseph Smith and the Restoration of Christ's church, and I felt, very strongly, that I did know it was true. I felt God testifying to me and to the person we were teaching that the things we were saying were absolutely true, that they were the things that I needed to do to return to him. Since that day, every time I talk to someone about the gospel, and especially as a missionary was able to see how these things totally changed their lives, I have felt that same confirmation, those same feelings testifying again and again that these things are true. I know that God loves me, and knows me better than I know myself. I know that because of this love, he gave me a savior, Jesus Christ, who suffered for me; and because of this suffering I can return to live with God. I know that because of His love for me, he restored His gospel again in our times, so that we can enjoy the same blessings and promises that his children of old had. I know this happened through the prophet Joseph Smith, and I know this because of my personal testimony of the Book of Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try to always be a good example to others to show what wonderful blessings the gospel gave me. I read the scriptures every day, and try to pray in the morning, at night, and throughout the day. I also try to avoid bad influences from people, movies or music. I try to focus on things that will make me feel closer to God, and now ashamed of him. I try to give service in any way that I can, both in the church, working with the other members in my area, and throughout the day on campus or other places. I try to help others feel the love that God has for them, and in turn I am able to feel my love for Him increase.
