Hi I'm Steven Born

I study geology. I'm a cartoonist. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm currently a student at BYU-Idaho. I'm majoring in geology and minoring in Chinese. I work part-time for the school making illustrated cartoons. My wife and I have been married for a little over a year, and four months ago we had our first child. Although our life is busy during the semester, we are so happy! I served a two year service mission in Houston for the LDS church. For the majority of my mission I served in my native tongue (English). At the close of my mission my mission president assigned me to serve in one of our Mandarin speaking congregations. It was a very challenging experience trying to learn Chinese and serve to my fullest. I learned to love the Chinese people and their culture. I didn't get to learn Chinese in the degree that I wanted, so since I've been home I'm determined to become fluent.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church and have continued to live by the church's standards. Growing up I always had many friends that were not of my faith. I learned from their good examples but later in my high school years many of the people that I cared about chose to make decisions that I didn't agree with. I was left to decide what I wanted to do for myself. I chose not to let bad examples determine my future, but instead tried my best to choose the right. Through the standards that the church has and the counsel taught by the church leaders I have avoided a life of guilt and shame. The reason why I am still a Mormon is because I know this is the path the Savior wants me to take. I am enjoying a life of peace and confidence.

How I live my faith

Right now I am a full time missionary for the church in Houston Texas. I have been on my mission for two years now and am about to go back home to Arizona. My missionary service has been the greatest years of my life. As a missionary we work every day to share what we believe with people; to help them strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ. It is a miracle to see people change every day. I am a very lucky person to have been able to serve a mission for Jesus Christ.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Steven Born
We worship God the Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, yet he was still a man. All men have weaknesses and sin. We look to our church leaders for guidance and direction as did the Children of Israel looked to Moses for guidance. Show more Show less
