Hi I'm Phil

I am a happily married man and father, a financial advisor and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for over 30 years and have six wonderful children. We live in Arizona and it is our home after having lived in Chicago, Provo, Seattle and San Francisco. When we get together as a family we enjoy eating, talking, playing games and just hanging out together. I love to travel with my wife and children and one of our favorite spots is the beach in S. California. We have been to many parts of the world and love meeting and getting to know the people wherever we go. Some of our best vacations have been service to others as we have built homes in Mexico, repaired schools in Honduras, etc. I have many interests outside of my work and church. I enjoy reading, watching uplifting movies and I am currently rebuilding a 68 Mustang with my youngest son.

Why I am a Mormon

There is nothing that has given me greater joy and peace in my life than my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I grew up a Baptist in Texas and never heard about the Mormons until I met some other youth my age while working at Six Flags Over Texas. I had just graduated from high school and was attracted to them because of the way they acted and talked. They were different from most all the other kids I knew in school. They always seemed happy and willing to help each other. Several of them invited me to an activity and there I met some other youth and again I was so impressed with their actions and attitudes. As I got to know them more they invited me to come to church. I started asking lots of questions and so they had me meet with two missionaries. They not only answered all my questions, but they taught me about the founding of the church and how it was organized the same way Jesus organized the church during his mortal ministry. They challenged me to read the Book of Mormon and at first I was reluctant because of my Baptist upbringing. They showed me the scripture Matthew 7:20 which says, "By their fruits ye shall know them." They explained that the actions and attitudes of those I knew in the church demonstrated their love of the Savior and desire to follow his teachings. So I agreed to read the Book of Mormon and as I read it I was amazed at its power and teachings. It made sense, but I still didn't know if I believed it to be scripture. Then one day the missionaries told me that I needed to really find out if the Book of Mormon was true by praying about it So on a quiet afternoon in my college apartment I knelt down and asked God if it was true. I really wanted to know. A overwhelming feeling of peace and joy came over me and at that moment I knew it was true. I was baptized a few weeks later and have continued to grow in my testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ and the fruits of membership in his church.

How I live my faith

Being a convert and knowing that the examples of those I met influenced me, I want to do my best in how I live my life. A year after becoming a member of the church I was called as a missionary to teach the gospel to others. This experience became the foundation of my testimony and service in the church. I learned to look at others a little bit more like the Savior. I realized that we all struggle in life and need the help of others and that is one of the reasons we came to earth - to help our fellow man. I love to read the Book of Mormon and every time I read passages from its pages I am motivated by the Holy Ghost to be better. I have had many responsibilites in the church with most being the opportunity to work with youth. How I love their energy and optimism. I have been on many campouts with young men and it is around the campfire that I have seen who they will become as they talk about things that matter most in life.
